European Telecommunications Standards Institute-ETSI
The ETSI, of which the Information Technologies and Communication Authority is a member with observer status, was established in 1988. The Institute has 688 members from 55 countries. The purpose of the Institute, established by experts from CEPT, CEN, and CENELEC on the initiative of the EU, is to unify telecommunications infrastructures among member countries, ensure the compatibility of terminal equipment, and form the European telecommunications network. Although ETSI was initially established as a regional standardization body, with the increasing globalization of the telecommunications market and the widespread adoption of mobile communications, it has begun to produce standards that are effective on a global scale.
