IPv6 Forum Turkey
Under the coordination of BTK, various meetings have been organized with the participation of representatives from universities, producers, operators, public institutions and organizations, and civil society organizations on the IPv6 agenda, and as a result of these meetings, IPv6 Forum Turkey was established under the coordination of BTK on October 2, 2006. On May 4, 2010, IPv6 Forum Turkey was accepted as a member of the Global IPv6 Forum.
Studies for the Public Sector
In order to support the IPv6 transition efforts in our country and to prevent possible idle and redundant investments in the public sector, initiatives have been undertaken at the State Planning Organization Undersecretariat, which conducts the secretariat activities of the e-Transformation Turkey Executive Board and is responsible for the implementation of the Information Society Strategy and Action Plan. As a result of these initiatives;
- In order to ensure IPv6 compatibility during development and procurement processes of public institutions and organizations, this issue has been included as a criterion in the "Public Information and Communication Technology Projects Preparation Guide"
- The IPv6 transition topic has been added to the agenda of the 27th meeting of the e-Transformation Turkey Executive Board to be held in April 2009, and a presentation on the subject has been made by our Institution at the meeting
has been ensured.
In June 2010, a report was prepared by the "IPv6 Regulation and Implementation Working Group" formed by representatives of UBAK and BTK, and the report included recommendations regarding the transition to IPv6 in Turkey. One of these recommendations was to ensure that public institutions start their IPv6 transition efforts by publishing a Prime Ministry Circular. The draft circular was prepared within the scope of the "National IPv6 Infrastructure Design and Transition Project" and sent to UBAK, and then forwarded to the Prime Ministry, enabling its publication in the Official Gazette as a Circular on December 8, 2010. BTK has established an electronic "IPv6 Transition Platform" with the participation of 152 personnel from 75 public institutions and organizations in order to follow up on this Prime Ministry Circular and to create a platform for exchange of views on the IPv6 transition of public institutions and organizations. Through this platform, it is planned to obtain information on the implementation status of the steps specified in the Circular at regular intervals.
National IPv6 Protocol Infrastructure and Design Project
The National IPv6 Protocol Infrastructure and Design Project is a project developed by our Institution in collaboration with TÜBİTAK – ULAKBİM, Gazi University, and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University within the scope of TÜBİTAK KAMAG 1007 Projects. This project, which started in February 2009 and was completed in February 2011, has produced very important outputs. These outputs are;
- "IPv6 Test Bed and Mehmet Altuner Development Environment" that can be used by parties who want to develop and test IPv6-based applications,
- "fi6en", an IPv6-supported video conferencing software that works over the web,
- "Information Production and Management System" containing a decision support system that can be used to determine the most suitable transition mechanism for transition to IPv6,
- "KOVAN", a beehive software developed for the development of IPv6 security vulnerabilities, and
- Document on Minimum Security Measures Deemed Beneficial to Comply with in IPv6 Transition
can be listed as such. These outputs have been made available for use by all relevant parties on the project's website (www.ipv6.net.tr).
IPv6 Conference
The National IPv6 Conference was organized by BTK, TÜBİTAK-ULAKBİM, Gazi University, and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University on January 12-13, 2011, at Rixos Grand Ankara within the scope of the "National IPv6 Protocol Infrastructure Design and Transition Project". Presentations made at the conference can be accessed at http://konferans.ipv6.net.tr/.
IPv6 Workshop
In collaboration with BTK, Information Security Association, Gazi University, and Middle East Technical University, an "IPv6 Workshop" was held within the scope of the "National IPv6 Protocol Infrastructure Design and Transition Project" at the "International Information Security and Cryptology Conference" held in Ankara in May 2010. Information about the workshop can be accessed from the (www.ipv6.net.tr) page.
