The "New Culture in IT Management: DevOps" Conference, organized by the Public Informatics Association, was held under the auspices of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, who spoke at the opening of the program, addressed the current state of technology and what needs to be done.
Deputy Minister Sayan touched upon DevOps being a brand new culture. Explaining that problems in the software field had pushed companies and technology developers to seek other alternatives over time, Sayan stated, "It wouldn't be wrong to say that the DevOps movement emerged to solve these problems. DevOps is a movement aimed at increasing collaboration between the team responsible for software development (Dev) and the team responsible for software operations (Ops)."
Pointing out the importance of teams working together from the idea stage of a project to its transformation into a product, Sayan noted that studies conducted worldwide have shown that those working with DevOps are much more successful. Expressing that Turkey has reached a level of competing with the world in information and communication technologies, Sayan conveyed that Turkey, which was once only a market, has now become a producer and seller of products. Touching upon the fact that classical methods are now outdated, Sayan stated that software development technologies have taken the business to entirely different dimensions, and that IT departments have become the most critical departments in service delivery today.
Deputy Minister Sayan: Those Who Do Not Rise on Their Own Wings Are Doomed to Crash to the Ground
Emphasizing the importance of advancing with domestic and national products in the software field, Sayan noted that developments in the world are happening before everyone's eyes, and that giant companies are struggling not to give even a small bite of the pie to anyone. Sayan stated that the competition in the technology field between the US and China shows that the world is heading in a different direction than 3-5 years ago, and that wars are now taking place in the technology and cyber world.
Citing the tension between Huawei and the US as an example, Sayan recalled that the company announced it had developed its own operating system and would continue working on it.
Sayan underlined that everyone who does not rise on their own wings is doomed to crash to the ground in the end, and that the current state of the world demonstrates this best. Touching upon the "National Technology Initiative," Sayan said, "What falls to us in raising national technologies will be to increase our production and take our place in the national technology initiative." Emphasizing that the important thing is to progress steadily, Sayan stated, "We will never forget our goal of becoming a country that leads technology instead of finding solutions to save the day."
