The “Domestic and National Cybersecurity Solutions Integration Cooperation Workshop” was held hosted by BTK.
The event, organized by Palo Alto Networks, was also attended by Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. Delivering a speech on the importance of cybersecurity, Karagözoğlu stated that cybersecurity cannot be considered separate from the internet.
Drawing attention to the fact that countries now establish their own information systems and critical infrastructures with information technology infrastructure, Karagözoğlu noted that protecting these systems using information technology infrastructure creates a vicious cycle.
Karagözoğlu stated, “When we look at the developments in cybersecurity technologies, where the nature of attacks changes every day and defending ourselves becomes more difficult, we see that investments are beginning to be made in cyber threat detection and prevention systems using analytical artificial intelligence and machine learning. In addition to these two concepts, ‘automation’ stands out. The rapid prevention of cyber threats detected through artificial intelligence and machine learning on big data via automation systems forms an important part of a holistic cybersecurity strategy.”
President Karagözoğlu also shared the following information regarding USOM: “Under our roof, in coordination with the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM), today 14 Sectoral SOMEs and over 1,000 Corporate SOMEs are conducting their operations on a 7/24 basis. USOM utilizes machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities in the projects we carry out in the fight against cyber threats. In particular, our domestic and national applications AVCI, AZAD, and KASIRGA are actively used in detecting malicious software command-and-control servers and compromised systems infected with malware. We continue our activities to enable sophisticated analyses. On the other hand, in our studies, we have taken important steps in detecting systems incorporated into botnets through machine learning. We place great importance on coming together with all our stakeholders and conducting joint studies on cybersecurity matters.”
Emphasizing the importance of qualified, trained human resources, Karagözoğlu said, “As you know, trained personnel is a critical need in the transition to the information society. One of the steps we have taken as an institution to address this gap is the ‘Cyber Star’ competition. Through this competition, we open our doors to our valuable young people who have proven their success in the cyber field. To achieve our goals—such as training expert personnel who understand the concept of cybercrime and the digital world, and continuously increasing their capacity—we provide all the support we can and will continue to do so,” thereby underscoring the importance they attach to the issue.
President Karagözoğlu concluded his speech with the words: “We are aware that in our era, countries can only grow stronger through production, and those who rely on products made by others cannot have a say in the world in the long term. With this awareness, we monitor our sector and exert every effort to provide you with a comprehensive roadmap on many variables.”
