At the Technology Day Event organized by Huawei Enterprise, the impacts of intelligent computing, intelligent storage, intelligent cloud platform, and intelligent networking on institutions' digital transformation and future services were discussed.
In the opening speech of the program hosted by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu spoke about the effects of technological developments on our lives.
Emphasizing the importance of producing information and commercializing it by transforming it into technology, Karagözoğlu stated, “The role of information, R&D, innovation, and technological development in a country's socio-economic development and increasing its competitiveness is very significant. Therefore, the dynamics, logic, and functioning of today's economies are being reshaped from this perspective. When we carefully examine the last 17 years in our country, we see in general that our state has begun to attach greater importance to R&D and is shaping the economy's structure according to the facts I mentioned earlier. This situation is also clearly reflected in the figures.”
Karagözoğlu: We Will Transition to 5G with Domestic and National Means
Touching on Turkey's work regarding 5G, Karagözoğlu said, “As an Institution, while we expect our country's mobile services journey from 2G to 4.5G to continue with 5G and beyond technologies in the near future, we are conducting studies on how to have more fiber networks and fiber internet subscribers than dial-up connections. But now, instead of being a country that only waits for future technology, we are on the path to becoming a country that leads technology. Thanks to 5G's high data speeds, low latency times, greater data capacity, energy efficiency, and software-based network logic with lower cost elements, developments in sectors such as healthcare, transportation, energy, and media will have a significant impact on society's daily life.”
Stating that 5G technologies can be described as technologies that will provide a broad ecosystem solution platform in areas related to the communications sector and called vertical industries, Karagözoğlu emphasized that Turkey's goals are to transition to 5G with domestic and national means to the highest possible extent and to be one of the first countries to do so.
Drawing attention to the fact that data is the gold of our era, Karagözoğlu said, “We see that cyber attacks are continuing to increase during this period. Therefore, taking technological and legal measures to protect our data from attacks is not just a preference but a necessity. All actors involved in the process from the moment information is processed/produced until it is destroyed have responsibilities regarding ensuring information security. The information and communication technologies sector has become not only a sector on its own but also the main actor in the development and growth of other sectors and the locomotive of the digital transformation era.”
Noting that he also has expectations from Huawei regarding the work done in the field of informatics, Karagözoğlu said, “It should utilize the accumulated knowledge and experiences to support other stakeholders in the local ecosystem, thereby implementing a win-win approach for all relevant parties. Huawei's investments in our country to date also show that they view this process positively. I believe that with these investments and efforts, changes and developments in science, technology, and innovation will always follow an upward trajectory. We all have major responsibilities to position Turkey as a global center of attraction in science and technology development.” He concluded his speech with these words.
