Demo of the "TR713-7Ghz Radio Link" developed under the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project was conducted at Ostim Teknopark. The program was attended by Ali Taha Koç, Head of the Presidency Digital Transformation Office; Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, Chairman of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK); Mehmet Aslan, Chairman of TÜBİTAK Technology and Innovation Funding Programs Presidency (TEYDEB); Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the OSTİM Board of Directors; and Mehmet Akif Nacar, General Manager of Havelsan.
During the radio link demo, four 4K resolution videos were transmitted from a base station located 12 kilometers away, and a successful meeting was held via Havelsan's "Diyalog" video conferencing system. In his statement following the demo, Minister Varank noted that the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project has been ongoing for approximately 3 years, stating, "The project aims to develop the critical components of the 5G network, which will become very important in the coming period, domestically and nationally through public-private collaboration."
Expressing that they have successfully conducted the test of the radio link, which is an important part of the project, Varank said that the radio link connects structures like base stations that cannot be physically connected to each other via radio frequencies, enabling high data transmission over long distances. Reminding that this product was developed through collaboration between different companies and public institutions, Varank stated that they have been conducting the TEYDEB project with the Communications Technologies Cluster (HTK) and TÜBİTAK for a long time.
Drawing attention to the discussions worldwide regarding the security of communication infrastructures, Varank said, "ULAK domestic base stations compatible with 4G networks are currently produced domestically and nationally and are used in our country. We are also taking measures to encourage domestic and national production for the 5G network. There are important decisions by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and BTK. In line with these decisions, we will succeed in producing 5G products to be used especially in the coming period domestically and nationally. We have taken an important step today. We conducted a successful test and saw that the 4K videos came successfully from 12 kilometers away."
Minister Varank: We Will Question How Domestic the Products Really Are
Pointing out TEYDEB's significant contributions to the project's funding, Varank noted that the capabilities of TÜBİTAK institutes from the past have also been transferred to the project. Stating that they want domestically and nationally developed products like the radio link to be used by operators, Varank said, "BTK has a decision regarding the products being domestic and national. There are those who use products coming from abroad or those produced by global companies in Turkey. We will question issues such as how truly domestic they are, whether the products are produced in Turkey or just integrated, and we will take the next steps of the project accordingly."
Chairman Karagözoğlu: We Are Making Serious Efforts to Train Human Resources in 5G
BTK Chairman Karagözoğlu also emphasized that as an institution, they are working on regulating the matter and enabling operators to incorporate the products produced under the project into their own structures, stating that they take pride in bringing companies together with HTK.
Emphasizing that they will work for the companies in the cluster to achieve significant successes in the international arena, Karagözoğlu noted that they are also making serious efforts regarding the training of human resources in 5G.
