Information Technologies and Communications Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu spoke at the Post & Parcel International Summit, the second of which was held this year under the leadership of the Turkey Cargo, Courier and Logistics Operators Association (KARİD), bringing together the Turkish cargo and logistics sector.
Stating that postal service providers played a significant role in the transportation and distribution of critically important materials to the disaster area following the earthquake disaster centered in Kahramanmaraş that directly affected 11 of our provinces, Karagözoğlu said, “After the earthquake disaster, postal service providers assisted in the rapid transportation and distribution of aid materials to the disaster area. Additionally, postal service providers supported post-disaster aid campaigns. Citizens who wanted to send aid materials to the affected people sent their materials to the disaster area through postal service providers. Thus, the safe and rapid delivery of aid materials to the disaster area was ensured.”
President Karagözoğlu stated, “Our Ministry and Authority have conducted and continue to conduct intensive work in both electronic communications and the postal sector during the earthquake process. As a country, we are determined and eager to heal our wounds in every field and to continue on our path with strong steps with even more advanced capabilities. Insha'Allah, we will continue on our path together even stronger. On this occasion, I once again thank all the employees of our postal and cargo sector for their support during the earthquake process. God bless them, long may they live.”
President Karagözoğlu: In recent years, along with rapidly developing technological innovations, we are witnessing great changes in the postal and cargo sector as well.
Noting that postal services, one of the oldest and foremost communication methods, constitute one of the sectors most affected by, changed by, and developed by digital transformation today, President Karagözoğlu said, “When we look at the developments in our country, we see that the postal and cargo sector is also developing, changing, and transforming rapidly with the developments in internet services, changes in individuals' consumption habits, and increasing interest in e-commerce. To express it in numbers, we see that revenues from cargo shipments in 2022 increased by approximately 87% compared to the previous year, reaching 28.9 billion TL. It is recorded that investments in the sector exceeded 2.6 billion TL in 2022.”
Stating that they have taken steps to eliminate negative externalities such as traffic congestion and environmental pollution arising from the provision of postal services through the regulations made, Karagözoğlu said, “Our aim is to regulate the postal sector taking into account international examples and the needs of our country. At the same time, in the growing postal market influenced by e-commerce, we prioritize service quality and consumer satisfaction. We believe that all our postal service providers are directing their work towards this goal.”
President Karagözoğlu: Undoubtedly, we continue to develop and support the postal and cargo sector in terms of making the good even better, the strong even stronger, and the fast even faster.
Karagözoğlu said, “There are a total of 40 postal service providers authorized by our Authority at national and local levels in the sector. Our postal service providers serve with more than 9,500 branches and agencies nationwide and over 90,000 personnel. We see that the volume of postal shipments in 2022 reached 1.7 billion pieces. Thanks to their widespread service points and distribution network, 61% of cargo shipments in our country are delivered to their owners within two days following the day they are accepted. When this figure is evaluated together with the USA and European Union figures, which can extend up to four days but where the area of service is physically larger, we see that we have reached a speed on a square kilometer basis that matches these regions.”
Authority President Karagözoğlu concluded his speech by saying, “In this context, as the public side, we pave the way for our sector with our regulations, aim to ensure that services are provided to our people in increasing quality and speed in accordance with the regulations through our inspections, and lead the provision of even higher quality services at every point of our country. Of course, this leadership gains meaning together with the successful and strong stakeholders working with us. I have full faith that the cargo and logistics sector, which I believe creates great added value for our country, will be carried to a much better point thanks to you.”
