Information Technologies and Communications Authority has issued authorization certificates to 4 companies operating in the electronic communications and postal sectors.
At the “Authorization Certificate Presentation Ceremony” hosted by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority, “Authorization Certificates” were presented to 4 companies, consisting of 3 in the electronic communications sector and 1 in the postal sector.
Emphasizing that the information technologies and communications sector is an indispensable tool for the information society and digital economy, Institution President Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan stated, “The activities that businesses provide to citizens who are part of the information society, as well as those they carry out among themselves, are the driving force of the digital economy. With technological advancements, the electronic communications and postal sector is transforming from a labor-intensive sector into one that intensively utilizes information technologies and communications.”
President Sayan also shared the following data regarding the sector: “As of today,
in Türkiye, there are 450 service providers in the electronic communications sector and 32 in the postal sector holding authorization certificates from BTK to provide services. Approximately 65,000 people are employed in our postal sector, making it a significant source of employment for our country. Revenues from the electronic communications sector exceeded 50 billion lira in 2017, while revenues from postal services, with the total turnover of the postal sector including cargo transportation, exceeded 10 billion lira by the end of 2017. The internet and postal sector have become so important in our daily lives; however, in daily life, especially in online shopping, we need to be very careful to prevent fraud cases that could victimize our citizens.”
Sayan, who mentioned that workshops have been organized in coordination with BTK, BKM, MASAK, Cyber Crimes Department, Ministry of Customs and Trade, Ministry of Justice, and other stakeholders, stated, “We all know that fraud cases through fake websites and stolen credit card information reduce trust in e-commerce. For this reason, the mandatory implementation of applications such as 3D Secure and two-factor authentication has significantly contributed to the development of e-commerce in our country in recent years. For example, companies like Turkish Airlines today conduct 50% of their sales online; when looking at the rotating economic size in this area, we can say that these figures show significant growth. Negative experiences have led to the adoption of many measures by our companies and institutions. Specialized field operation teams have been established in public institutions to combat online fraud cases.”
Drawing attention to the fact that criminals are also increasing in proportion to the struggle's strength and capabilities, Sayan said, “Phishing sites containing phishing content that appear to users only through search engines at certain hours of the day, applications that bring phishing pages in front of the user, and malicious software that infects phones to steal credit card information and 3D Secure passwords are among the most striking examples we have encountered in the last year. On the other hand, the privacy of personal data also emerges as a matter directly affecting customers' trust in e-commerce transactions. It is not possible for e-commerce to grow to desired levels in countries that cannot create a secure cyber environment.”
President Sayan concluded his speech with the call, “At this point, I kindly request that the companies to which we will issue new authorization certificates be very sensitive.”
Following Sayan’s opening speeches, the companies receiving the Authorization Certificates made presentations introducing themselves. The names of the businesses that received their certificates are as follows:
· Alfa Net Telecommunications-Electronic Communications Sector
· Günay Mutlu Information Services Telecommunications-Electronic Communications Sector
