The 5th Career Summit, organized by BTK Academy this year, was held under the auspices of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. Speaking at the summit, Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, shared his career experiences and emphasized that new technologies are significantly transforming the workforce structure.
Stating that the digital age is rapidly transforming the workforce structure, Sayan expressed that, according to World Economic Forum data, around 78 million new employment opportunities could emerge in the workforce in the coming years. “The world is changing; we are experiencing the results of this transformation,” said Sayan, emphasizing that new skills are rapidly gaining importance.
Drawing attention to the increase in data production, Sayan noted that forecasts indicate the global data volume to be produced in the 2024–2026 period will exceed the total data produced to date, creating new areas of expertise and job opportunities for young people.
In his speech, Sayan touched on the potential business volume of approximately 100 billion dollars that the 5G ecosystem will provide to the Turkish economy, stating that this impact is not limited to the telecom sector alone; it will create new business models across all sectors from manufacturing to logistics, smart cities to health technologies.
Expressing that the National Technology Initiative plays a determining role in Turkey's digital transformation process, Sayan said they are working decisively to develop domestic and national solutions. He emphasized that projects such as 4.5G base stations developed by ULAK, hundreds of thousands of kilometers of fiber infrastructure, and TÜRKSAT 6A are strategic thresholds for Turkey's digital sovereignty.
Reminding that sector general managers, technology leaders, and human resources managers will meet with young people during the event, Sayan stated that these sessions serve as a concrete guide for young people planning their careers.
Addressing the youth, Sayan concluded his speech by saying, “Every step you take shapes not only your career but also our country's digital sovereignty.”
President Karagözoğlu: Information and Communication Technologies are the Locomotive of Digital Transformation
Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, drew attention to the strategic importance of digital transformation for Turkey in his speech at the program. President Karagözoğlu said, “Information and communication technologies, the locomotive of digital transformation, have now become not only the foundation of economic development but also the primary determinant of societal dynamics. Today, information technologies have long surpassed the 'nice to have' level for both individuals and institutions. They have become 'must-have.' An irreversible digital transformation has begun, accompanied by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, autonomous technologies, the Internet of Things, and many more technologies.”
Emphasizing that BTK Academy provides qualified human resources to Turkey's growing technology ecosystem, Karagözoğlu stated, “BTK Academy, as a structure that has set providing benefits to our institution and the sector as its primary goal, has been serving since 2017 with a scientific, technological, and continuously self-renewing educational approach. As of today, BTK Academy has nearly 3 million online users; over 325 online courses and more than 166 thousand minutes of content are accessible to young people and sector employees. Moreover, we are not limited to online education only. By organizing face-to-face trainings, workshops, software and cybersecurity camps, competitions, and events in 60 provinces, we reach tens of thousands of young people, making access to knowledge more accessible for individuals from all segments. Individuals who receive training from the Academy gain a competitive advantage in the business world thanks to the up-to-date knowledge and skills they acquire, and they can play an active role in Turkey's growing technology ecosystem.”
Following the speeches, participants listened to the experiences of the panelists in the panels held.
