13. The closing meeting of the International Electronic Communications Regulators Conference was held.
The second day of the meeting, which hosted dozens of guests from different countries and featured important sharing on the sector, began with a session moderated by Figen Kılıç, Deputy President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
In her speech, Kılıç touched upon the activities carried out under the "Girls in ICT Day." Stating that they aim to direct young women to the ICT sector in their education and professional lives and increase their numbers, Kılıç said, "I believe that awareness on this issue should be further increased worldwide under the leadership of the UN and ITU. Because, as important as women's employment in the sector, their presence in decision-making positions is also crucial. Indeed, greater gender equality in ICT, which shapes the future of the world, will play an important role in making our sector more successful and creative with the spirit and mindset of women."
"Thanks to 'Girls in ICT,' the seeds sown around the world are beginning to bear fruit," said Kılıç, adding, "When we consider that every profession today has a technological aspect, even if our girls do not work in the ICT sector, we must ensure that their capabilities in information and communication technologies are enhanced. This will provide them with more advantages in their own fields and enable them to have the career mobility to pursue their dream jobs. In Turkey, over the last 17 years, I am pleased to see the increase in positive discrimination towards women in many sectors, primarily information and communication technologies, and the major reforms made regarding women's rights. Turkey will continue to set an example for other countries in this regard and support all initiatives to increase women's presence on the international stage. As we enter the 100th year of our Republic, we have set ourselves the goal of employing millions of women and including them in decision-making mechanisms in line with our 2023 targets. Like our other partners at the ITU, we will work hard and contribute to achieving gender equality in our sector," she stated.
