The amendments to the social media law, including the requirement to have a representative as per Law No. 5651, entered into force as of October 1.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, through the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, had completed the studies on the "Draft Procedures and Principles Regarding Social Network Providers." Taking into account that the relevant article of the Law, which obliges social network providers based abroad with more than 1 million daily accesses from Turkey to appoint at least 1 representative in Turkey, entered into force on October 1, 2020, social media platforms that were notified on August 12 were invited to a meeting by sharing the draft text.
In the meeting chaired by Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mr. Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, the latest information on the procedures and principles to be published was provided to social media representatives, NGO representatives, and academics, and it was referred to the Information Technologies Communication Board. Our Board President Mr. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu and the Internet Department Directorate also attended the meeting.
