The Information Technologies and Communication Authority's e-Termination Project received the most votes in its category and became the owner of the “WSIS Prize 2022 Champion” award.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, organized annually under the leadership of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)—a United Nations (UN) specialized agency of which our country is a founding member and which currently has 193 member states—is a high-level event that stands out as a multi-stakeholder platform providing opportunities for multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations to address the contributions of WSIS actions to UN Sustainable Development Goals and to discuss best practice examples and experiences.
Within the scope of the WSIS Forums, the “WSIS Prizes” are awarded in various categories based on global voting open to everyone, evaluating projects and activities carried out by WSIS stakeholders using the power of information and communication technologies in line with the sustainable development goals, and recognizing inclusive and development-oriented best practices.
In the WSIS Awards, given for the 11th time within the WSIS Forum 2022—which started on March 15, 2022, under the theme “Information and Communication Technologies for Development” and will conclude with the final week from May 30 to June 3, 2022—a total of 966 candidates competed in 18 different categories. In the competition where 1.3 million votes were cast, our Institution's e-Termination Project, which enables the termination of subscription contracts through e-Government, entered the top 5 projects with the most votes in its category and became the owner of the “WSIS Prize 2022 Champion” award. The awards will be presented to their owners at the award ceremony to be held in Geneva on May 31, 2022.
