Stakeholders in the electricity sector gathered at the CIGRE Power Systems Conference. Energy efficiency was discussed in the program.
BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu also attended the program hosted by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. Karagözoğlu touched upon technology's contribution to energy efficiency. Speaking about the importance of renewable energy sources, Karagözoğlu stated, “In the last 20 years, carbon emissions from the information and communication sector have nearly tripled. It is becoming increasingly important for IT products and services to be environmentally sensitive and sustainable. The production and use of nature-friendly technology, i.e., green IT, ranks high on countries' agendas. It is estimated that if IT technologies are used correctly, carbon emissions in other industries can be reduced by 20%.”
Pointing out the necessity of prioritizing savings for the proper use of energy, Karagözoğlu said that smart systems are tailor-made for this purpose. Karagözoğlu stated, “Radio technologies and 5G are becoming increasingly important for energy efficiency and green networks in power systems. This includes solutions that provide energy savings for both networks and devices. Automation systems, IoT devices, and SCADA systems play a major role in increasing energy efficiency in power systems. It is of great importance for these systems to work in harmony with 5G communication technologies.”
President Karagözoğlu concluded his speech by saying, “I believe that the use of technology will play a pioneering role in developing solutions to transmission problems and that encouraging the use of new techniques and technologies focused on energy efficiency should be the priority of all our institutions. In this important event, technological innovations, future plans, and other key agenda items will be comprehensively evaluated, and I am sure very valuable ideas will emerge.”
