Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, warned users against harmful content in the internet environment.
Deputy Minister Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, who gave advice to families from his Twitter account, provided information about content in the internet environment that would set a bad example for children in recent days.
Sayan called out, “Mother, father, aunt, uncle, paternal aunt, paternal uncle, in short, everyone who holds the most precious trust in the world in their life, please listen to what I say.” He stated, “Unfortunately, the internet environment is not just a place with correct and good information. Every individual in front of a digital screen can face an open danger. For this reason, our Information Technologies and Communication Institution has been conducting a very good study for a long time. The name of this system, which protects you from dangers in the digital world to the extent you allow, is Safe Internet Service.”
Drawing attention to the importance of monitoring children's internet use, Sayan said, “We all know that our children are communicating with the whole world unfiltered in front of the screen, but sometimes we cannot fully monitor it. In that case, you can select the ‘Child Profile’ that will protect your child against harmful content in the digital world for free.”
Regarding the child profile, Sayan said, “In this profile, access to websites that would negatively affect children's mental and physical health or allow them to communicate with strangers is not permitted. Additionally, chat sites and social media sites are not included in the Child Profile. Don’t think that you are sentencing your child to a digital prison. All sites accessible with the child profile are sites that have passed expert review and approved according to certain criteria.”
Sayan stated that the child profile provides access to sites such as e-mail, instant messaging, education, shopping, news, business, official institutions, health, banking, and games with content suitable for our children's age, saying, “We aim to prevent negative content with the safe search feature of Google, Yandex, Bing, Yaani, and Yahoo search engines. Subscribers can benefit from this feature without any changes.”
Reminding that this service has been in use since November 22, 2011, Sayan shared that the Safe Internet Service can be activated with a single SMS. Sayan also noted that membership can be terminated at any time and added that all these processes are free.
Deputy Minister Sayan concluded his statement with the words, “Use the Safe Internet Service Child Profile so you don’t say ‘I didn’t notice!’ Let our children be safe.”
