
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made evaluations regarding the Information Technologies and Communication Authority's Turkey Electronic Communications Sector 3-Month Market Data Report for the first quarter of 2023.
Emphasizing that Turkey has made significant progress in its communication infrastructure since 2003, Minister Uraloğlu stated, “The total broadband internet subscriber count reached 91.6 million, including 72.5 million mobile subscribers.”
Uraloğlu noted that in Turkey, fiber infrastructure reached 526 thousand kilometers in the first quarter of 2023, marking an increase of around 9.1% compared to the previous year, and the number of fiber internet subscribers is approximately 6.1 million.
Recording that 459 companies authorized by the BTK as of the first quarter of the year hold 830 authorization certificates, Minister Uraloğlu said, "The net sales revenues of TT Mobil, Turkcell, Türk Telekom, and Vodafone were approximately 30.8 billion lira, while the total revenues of other operators amounted to 10.7 billion lira. As of the beginning of 2023, the mobile subscriber count was 90.7 million, and mobile penetration reached 106.3%. It was observed that 84 million mobile subscribers preferred the 4.5G subscription that began service in 2016, and the 4.5G service accounts for 92.6% of total subscribers. The M2M subscriber count also reached 8.7 million."
Minister Uraloğlu: Number of ported numbers exceeds 169.5 million
Emphasizing that the total number of ported mobile numbers exceeded 169.5 million as of the beginning of 2023, Minister Uraloğlu stated, “As of the beginning of 2023, the total number of ported mobile numbers exceeded 169.5 million. In the first quarter of the year, porting transactions decreased by 20.9% compared to the previous three-month period, with 2 million 257 thousand 266 number porting operations completed. From September 10, 2009, when number portability for fixed lines began, to March 31, 2023, a total of 2 million 510 thousand 173 number porting operations were carried out. Examining the internet subscriber count, the total broadband internet subscriber number was 91.6 million, including 72.5 million mobile. In the first quarter of 2023, fiber infrastructure reached 526 thousand km with an increase of around 9.1% compared to the previous year. The fiber internet subscriber count reached approximately 6.1 million.”
Stating that the usage of broadband internet subscribers rose to 249 GB in the first quarter of 2022, Uraloğlu noted, “For mobile subscribers, data usage, which was 12.6 GB in the first quarter of 2022, reached 14.6 GB. As of the first quarter of the year, the average monthly usage time in mobile networks was 469 minutes, and 89 minutes in fixed networks. Currently, there are 6 authorized electronic certificate service providers in our country. As of the end of March 2023, these electronic certificate service providers generated a total of 7.56 million electronic certificates, including 6.7 million electronic signatures and 887 thousand mobile signatures.”
