
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that investments in the electronic communications sector increased by 34% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
In his written statement, Karaismailoğlu evaluated the "Turkey Electronic Communications Sector 3-Month Market Data Report" covering the second quarter of 2021.
Noting that investments in the electronic communications sector increased by 34%, Karaismailoğlu said, "Investments in the electronic communications sector did not slow down. Net sales revenues of the electronic communications sector increased by 18% in the second quarter of the year."
Emphasizing that the electronic communications sector is important in terms of affecting the ways of doing business in other sectors and ensuring productivity increases, Minister Karaismailoğlu expressed his satisfaction that the positive picture has continued in every period when looking at the sector's data from the past.
Stating that they expect the technologies to be introduced in the near future to increase the sector's momentum, Karaismailoğlu noted that 5G and the widespread high-speed fiber infrastructure will also make a positive contribution to the recovery and improvement across the economy.
3.8 Billion Lira Investment in the Sector
Drawing attention to the fact that net sales revenues in the sector exceeded 22.1 billion lira in the second quarter of 2021, Karaismailoğlu pointed out that the share of Türk Telekom and mobile operators in this revenue was 16.1 billion lira.
Emphasizing that the high growth seen in investments since the beginning of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continued in the second quarter, Karaismailoğlu said, "Investments increased by approximately 34% compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded 3.8 billion lira."
152.4 Million Mobile Phone Numbers Ported
Also sharing the information that the number of mobile subscribers is 84.6 million, Karaismailoğlu said, "The subscription penetration rate is 101.2%. Of these subscribers, 78.5 million are 4.5G subscribers. The number of machine-to-machine communication subscribers has reached 7 million. The total number of ported mobile numbers is 152.4 million, while 2.3 million numbers were ported in this quarter. Our total broadband internet subscriber base has risen to 85.7 million, including 68.3 million mobile, marking a 9.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest percentage increase in subscriber numbers was 32.3% in 'Fiber to the Home' subscribers, followed by 13.6% in 'Cable Internet' subscribers. Fixed broadband subscribers' average monthly data usage was 211 GB, while mobile subscribers' average monthly usage reached 10.5 GB. The total fiber infrastructure length in our country increased by 10.2% to exceed 445 thousand kilometers."
Karaismailoğlu stated that they expect the increases in financial data, subscriber numbers, and usage amounts in the electronic communications sector, and consequently operator investments, to continue in the second half of the year.
