
The third edition of the "Quarterly Market Data Report" covering developments in the electronic communications sector in 2017 has been published.
Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Chairman of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), made evaluations regarding the "Turkey Electronic Communications Sector 3-Monthly Market Data Report" for the third quarter of 2017, prepared by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL PRODUCTION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY
Chairman Sayan, who stated that domestic and national production is at the forefront of the issues given the most importance and effort by BTK in the part of 2017 that has passed, drew attention to the following points: "The works targeting 5G and Beyond technologies, which we started together with the 4.5G authorization, continue at a great speed. Our sectoral clustering efforts, workshops, and panels to activate our country's software and hardware production potential continue. In this context, the 5GTR Forum, which aims to bring together everyone who will contribute to domestic and national production for 5G and Beyond technologies, continued its work with the working group workshop it held in November."
MOBILE SUBSCRIBER NUMBER REACHES 77.9 MILLION
BTK Chairman Dr. Sayan made the following evaluations regarding the developments in our electronic communications sector during July-August-September of 2017:
•The total net sales revenues of our operators operating in the sector, which realized at 45.4 billion ₺ in 2016, approached approximately 13.1 billion ₺ in the third quarter of 2017.
•In this period, alongside approximately 11 million fixed subscribers, the number of mobile service subscribers reached 77.9 million, and the penetration rate reached 97.6%.
•When we exclude the machine-to-machine (M2M) subscriber number and the population aged 0-9, the mobile penetration rate is 109.9%.
•In the third quarter of 2017, with an average monthly mobile usage duration of 458 minutes, Turkey ranked first among the European countries that could be examined, as in the previous period.
•In this period, 2.6 million subscribers ported their numbers, and the total number of ported numbers to date has exceeded 109 million.
BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIBER NUMBER REACHES 67.9 MILLION
•Looking at broadband data; 11.4 million fixed subscribers and 56.5 million mobile subscribers, totaling approximately 67.9 million broadband internet subscribers have been reached.
•Internet subscriber number increased by 14.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
•The highest increase was in Fiber to the Home subscriber number with a rate of approximately 36%, followed by Cable Internet subscriber number with a rate of approximately 16.9%.
63 MILLION CITIZENS ARE USING 4.5G SERVICE
As of the end of the third quarter of 2017, approximately 63 million of our citizens have subscribed to the 4.5G service, which started to be used in our country on April 1, 2016. However, due to some citizens' devices or SIM cards not being compatible with 4.5G service, the number of those actively using this service as of the end of September is approximately 28 million.
While the average monthly usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers is at 3.2 GByte level, the data usage of 4.5G subscribers whose devices and SIM cards are compatible with 4.5G service has been realized as 6.5 GByte monthly.
OUR FIBER INFRASTRUCTURE LENGTH: 311,214 KM
In terms of fiber infrastructure, the fiber length, which was 284,044 km in the same period of the previous year, reached 311,214 km in the third quarter of 2017, realizing a 9.6% increase.
