The "Data Security in the Threat Ecosystem" event was organized under the auspices of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu also attended the event.
Speaking at the event, President Karagözoğlu stated that cyber attacks are extremely widespread and a serious problem today. Karagözoğlu said, “When we look at the figures on information security; we see that 94% of organizations worldwide have been exposed to at least one cyber attack last year. This situation is an important indicator of how widespread and serious a problem cyber attacks are. According to analyses, the average cost of a data breach in the US is calculated to be around 4.35 million USD. When we evaluate how large this figure is, we understand more clearly that data security breaches carry not only financial but also significant reputational risks.”
Emphasizing that 80% of attacks carried out globally are phishing attacks, Karagözoğlu stated, “Phishing attacks, defined in English as ‘phishing,’ refer to a type of cyber attack where malicious individuals or groups attempt to access sensitive information by deceiving users. These types of attacks pose a serious threat to both individuals and organizations. Although this figure is meaningful on its own, when combined with another statistic that 92% of data breaches occur due to human error, the sensitivity of the issue becomes evident. In other words, attacks do not only succeed through external attempts. Various behaviors carried out unconsciously or deliberately from within the organization also strengthen the impact of attacks and increase their damages.”
President Karagözoğlu noted that the Cyber Incident Response Center, established under the Information Technologies and Communication Authority to ensure data security, continues its work without slowing down. Karagözoğlu also expressed that the training programs conducted by BTK Academy make significant contributions to the training of young people in the field of information security and the continued development of competent personnel.
Underlining that domestic and national production is of critical importance for the future of countries, President Karagözoğlu concluded his speech by saying, “With the awareness that countries can only strengthen through production and cannot have a say in the world in the long term by using products produced by others, our efforts continue at full speed to become a stronger country that can produce with domestic and national capabilities, especially in high-tech sectors such as communications and defense, and that is self-sufficient. Both the public sector and the private sector have important roles to play in achieving these goals. We must join hands to build a technology production-based economy even stronger.”
