
Our country was represented at the World Radiocommunication Conference organized by ITU by Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, and his accompanying delegation.
Nowadays, the International Telecommunication Union - Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), which undertakes tasks such as broadcasting, meteorology, space research, navigation services, scientific research, frequency allocations related to satellites, orbit and position determination services, and ensuring their operation without causing harmful interference, in addition to communication, organizes the World Radiocommunication Conference (World Radiocommunication Conference - WRC) every three or four years with the participation of member state administrations and sector members for the purpose of updating international spectrum plans.
At WRCs, while reviewing the Radio Regulations (ITU Radio Regulations - ITU-RR), which is an international agreement determining the procedures and principles for the use of radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits, necessary changes are made in line with developing technologies and emerging new needs. These changes are made based on the WRC agenda items approved by the ITU Council.
This year, at the conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from October 28 to November 22, 2019, our country was represented by the Turkish Delegation, headed by BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, Board Member Hacı Adnan Cengiz, and Authority Deputy President Gazali Çiçek, consisting of representatives from the Radio and Television Supreme Council, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Communications, the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, the General Directorate of State Airports Administration, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Türksat Satellite Communication Cable TV and Operation Inc., Türk Telekomünikasyon A.Ş., Turkcell İletişim Hizmetleri AŞ, and ASELSAN AŞ.
Additionally, more than 3,300 participants attended WRC-19, including delegates from 193 member states and representatives from 260 ITU sector members.
