The Plenipotentiary Conference (Plenipotentiary Conference - PP), the highest-level and most authoritative decision-making body of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and one of the founding members of which our country is also a part, began on September 26, 2022, in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
In the elections held on October 3, 2022, to determine the countries that will serve on the Council, our country was re-elected as a member of the ITU Council from the Western Europe Region (Region B) for the 2023-2026 period, receiving the votes of 122 countries.
In the ITU Council, which consists of 48 members representing 25% of ITU member countries, Turkey first gained Council membership in the elections at the Plenipotentiary Conference held in Marrakesh in 2002, and was also elected to Council membership in the Plenipotentiary Conferences held in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018, thereby maintaining its voice in ITU's management for five consecutive terms. In the 2023-2026 period, Turkey will continue its effective participation in ITU as a Council member for the 6th time.
The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference will conclude on October 14, 2022, with the signing of the conference outcome documents.
