Transportation, Maritime and Communications Minister Binali Yıldırım appeared on A Haber's Yeni Haber program on March 31, 2016. Yıldırım, who explained the details about 4.5G, emphasized that 4.5G will also make significant contributions to our country's economic development.
Access to Information Will Speed Up 10 Times
Stating that communication speeds will increase 10-fold with 4.5G, Yıldırım said: "4.5G will first and foremost accelerate access to information. For example, when downloading a book, if it takes one hour with 3G technology, it will drop to 6 minutes with 4.5G technology. For a more realistic example, if it takes 60 seconds, it will take 6 seconds. In other words, there is up to a 10-fold speed increase—this is the first point. The second point is that a speed increase means being able to accomplish more work in less time. This also contributes to economic development. When comparing a country's one-year development to the development of the informatics sector, there is a 10-fold difference. What does this mean? The informatics sector's share in overall development is more than its own proportion. It contributes even more to the country's development."
4.5G Will Also Be Used in Schools
Stating that a new chapter has been opened in the field of technology in the Republic of Turkey with 4.5G, Yıldırım continued: "It's not the technology itself, but the changes it brings to our lives, our work areas, our social lives, and our cultural lives—these are entering a new era with 4.5G. There is a protocol with the Ministry of National Education for schools. Under this framework, we are providing smart boards and fast broadband internet connections to all schools. This is a project developed especially for education, and we will use this technology there as well."
