The "Safe Internet Center," launched by BTK to promote the safe use of the internet, is celebrating its 8th anniversary.
The Safe Internet Service, launched by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority to enable citizens to access safe internet services completely free of charge, is celebrating its 8th anniversary.
As internet usage increases day by day, the threats it poses are also growing. Content involving child sexual abuse, obscenity, prostitution, drug and stimulant use, terrorism, racism, gambling, hate crimes, and cyber attacks, which pose particular risks to children, is spreading more widely and threatening internet users.
The Safe Internet Service plays an important role in building a safer future. Offered free of charge by internet service providers since 2011, the Safe Internet Service is not mandatory and is provided only to subscribers who request it.
The safe internet service is provided at the internet service provider level and is a very easy-to-use service.
Safe Internet Service Usage Reaches 6.3 Million Subscribers in 8 Years
Currently reaching 6.3 million subscribers, the Safe Internet Service has been protecting your children from dangers in the internet environment on your behalf for 8 years.
To benefit from this service, which has two different profiles—Child and Family—no installation of any program or computer settings is required. Users can easily and quickly start using the safe internet service through call centers, online transaction centers, dealers, SMS, and mobile applications of internet service providers; they can change their profiles or cancel the safe internet service quickly if they wish.
Child Profile: The Child Profile provides the highest level of protection from internet risks, allowing access only to websites deemed appropriate for children.
Family Profile: In the Family Profile, access is blocked to websites containing illegal content such as obscenity, child abuse, violence, racism, gambling; sites involved in fraud; sites hosting harmful software; and websites featuring products declared harmful to health by the Ministry of Health.
Our Institution conducts comprehensive studies to ensure the conscious and safe use of the internet by citizens. Regarding the development and widespread adoption of the Safe Internet Service:
- Establishing communication security to prevent subscribers who prefer GIH from being harmed by illegal activities such as viruses, botnets, spam, hacking, phishing, etc.,
- Raising awareness and informing subscribers about internet and information security by operators,
- Informing our Institution and other institutions in case subscribers experience personal data breaches or cyber attacks,
- Operators taking necessary measures to prevent the Safe Internet Service from being disabled through alternative access methods,
our ongoing efforts continue in these areas.
As BTK, our main goal is to ensure that everyone, especially our children and youth, benefits from the opportunities offered by the digital age in a safe environment. Our efforts will continue uninterruptedly with our stakeholders, including operators and access providers' associations, who wholeheartedly support this goal.
