Information Technologies and Communication Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu spoke at the Huawei 5G Event.
At the 5G Event organized by Huawei, the importance of 5G was discussed. BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu expressed his pleasure in sharing innovations, opportunities, developments, ongoing studies, and success stories related to 5G.
Stating that, as the regulatory authority responsible for electronic communications, they are ready to fulfill their duties during this period when Turkey is preparing for 5G and beyond, Karagözoğlu also provided information about the studies.
Karagözoğlu said, “In December 2017, 3GPP completed the non-standalone part of the 5G standards. In June 2018, 3GPP also completed the standalone 5G New Radio specification. This provides a new end-to-end architecture for mobile networks and facilitates the development of new business models. Meanwhile, Version 16 is targeted for release in 2020.”
Expressing that high value-added innovative studies are being conducted in Turkey under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and within the scope of the 2023 vision, Karagözoğlu said, “As an institution, we are determined, together with sector stakeholders, to become one of the countries producing technology with the highest possible domestic and national capabilities. While reiterating once again that we attach great importance to this unity, I am pleased to convey that we will continue our work with all our effort and conviction in the upcoming process. We have established the 5G Valley Open Test Field to provide technology developers with an impartial and free testing-trial environment. We have designated the area between METU, Hacettepe, and Bilkent campuses as Turkey's priority 5G test-trial field. Currently, the first test-trial studies have begun in the 5G Valley. In the 5G Valley, tests of many different projects, from channel measurements to autonomous vehicles, will be conducted by the end of the year,” concluding his speech.
