
Information Technologies and Communications Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu attended the “Ericsson Turkey Innovation Seminar in Telecommunications and SME Trainings 2023 Online Conference” hosted by Ericsson.
Speaking at the conference attended by important figures from telecommunications and the business world, Karagözoğlu made significant statements about developments in mobile technologies.
Stating that a major transformation is underway in the information and communications sector thanks to Turkey's strong and correct investments on its digitalization path, President Karagözoğlu said, “As of the beginning of 2023, we have reached 90.7 million mobile subscribers and a mobile subscription penetration rate of 106.3%. We see that 84 million of the mobile subscribers prefer the 4.5G subscription that started service in 2016, and the 4.5G service covers 92.6% of total subscribers.”
Stating that 5G technology represents a revolutionary development not only for individual users but also for the business world, industry, healthcare, and many other sectors, Karagözoğlu emphasized the importance of domestic and national production. Karagözoğlu stated, “Our goal is to transition to 5G using domestic and national products with a reliable infrastructure and to transfer our knowledge accumulation to next-generation communication technologies. In this context, the 'End-to-End Domestic and National 5G' project, which we have been working on since 2017 to enable our country to join the ranks of the few countries in the world capable of producing in 5G technology, is of great importance.”
Touching on the fact that technology is a rapidly evolving concept every day, Karagözoğlu said, “6G is expected to be commercialized and offered to users by 2030. While discussions continue on topics such as 6G requirements, new technologies that can be used in 6G, spectrum, and modulation techniques, we see that technologies and structures characterized as 'Cloud-Native', 'AI-Native', and 'Quantum-Native' are also being highlighted.” thus announcing that work on 6G has begun.
Expressing that developments in mobile technologies will create new opportunities, President Karagözoğlu concluded his speech by saying, “The fast connectivity and low latency provided by 5G and beyond technologies to consumers will be pioneering for businesses and startups. We are aware of our responsibility at BTK to enhance our economic prosperity and quality of life by leveraging these opportunities. We will continue our efforts with the same determination in the future.”
