
12. Transportation and Communications Council Continues at Full Speed in Istanbul. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), who participated in the program, held bilateral meetings with representatives of regulatory authorities from other countries as part of the event.
President Karagözoğlu first met with the TRNC Delegation. In the meeting, where he shared information about BTK with the delegation, Karagözoğlu stated his wish: “In the meetings, we evaluated the TRNC's developing infrastructure and technological adaptation process. Our cooperation will continue to strengthen even further.”
Karagözoğlu then met with the Montenegro Delegation as part of the bilateral meetings. Karagözoğlu and his entourage met with Branko Kovijanić, President of the Electronic Communications and Postal Services Authority of Montenegro, and his delegation.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Turkey and Montenegro, Karagözoğlu stated that they exchanged views on concrete steps that could be taken.
A memorandum of understanding had previously been signed between the two countries on July 6, 2011.
President Karagözoğlu held his next bilateral meeting with the Bulgarian Delegation. Meeting with Ivan Dimitrov, Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) of Bulgaria, Karagözoğlu highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two countries. Karagözoğlu stated, “We evaluated new cooperation opportunities regarding electronic communications and postal services.”
A memorandum of understanding had been signed with the Communications Regulation Commission of Bulgaria on July 30, 2009.
President Karagözoğlu also met with the delegation from Kyrgyzstan, one of the Turkic Republics. Holding discussions with Talant Kalykov, Director of the State Communications Agency of Kyrgyzstan, Karagözoğlu noted that the meetings between the two countries were very productive. Following the meeting, gifts were exchanged between the two sides.
A memorandum of understanding had been signed with the State Communications Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic on March 19, 2013.
The Iranian Delegation was also among the delegations that met with the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. Discussions covered ongoing work in the field of information technologies between the two countries and planned future work.
BTK President Karagözoğlu finally met with the Albanian Delegation. An exchange of views took place with Lorenc Bako, Member of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), and his entourage. In the meeting, where the electronic communications sector was evaluated on a country basis, potential work to increase cooperation between the two countries was discussed.
A memorandum of understanding had been signed between BTK and AKEP (then known as TRE) in 2007, reviewed and amended according to changing conditions, and the revised text was re-signed on May 10, 2018.
