Information Technologies and Communication Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu attended the HackerCamp Cybersecurity Camp organized by BTK Academy at Rami Library.
Speaking at the event organized to raise awareness in the field of cybersecurity, President Karagözoğlu stated that with the increasing power of information technologies, individuals, companies, critical infrastructures, and states have become targets of cybercriminals.
Karagözoğlu said, “Today, the cyber ecosystem encompassing all digital communication tools and services is forcing us all to work harder on security matters. But this is, so to speak, a sweet challenge for us. Because the expression ‘the most beautiful and valuable treasure a person can give to another is trust’ now holds great importance not only in human relations but also in the digital environment. Providing a secure environment to our citizens and institutions is a great source of pride for us as an institution.”
Emphasizing that the target of cybercriminals is not only to disrupt communication infrastructure but also to threaten social life by targeting critical systems, Karagözoğlu said, “We view cybersecurity as a national security issue. As the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, we are conducting numerous studies to contribute to and expand the cybersecurity ecosystem. With the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM) and Cyber Incident Response Teams (SOME) established within our institution, we continue our work day and night.”
Karagözoğlu stated, “In line with the route outlined by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the National Technology Move within the scope of our Republic's 100th anniversary targets; we are present in the cyber field with our AVCI, AZAD, KASIRGA, ATMACA, and KULE projects, which are fully developed domestically and nationally using our internal resources. As a result of all these efforts, we have never allowed cybercrimes and criminals to pass, and we will not.”
Emphasizing that investment in human resources is the most valuable investment, President Karagözoğlu expressed pride in the fact that the number of users of BTK Academy, established under the institution to reach everyone who requests it, especially children and youth across the country, has exceeded 1.8 million. He stated that they continue their training efforts in the cyber field with the words, “Through programs under BTK Academy, alongside our expert internal trainers, with the cooperation and contributions of public institutions and organizations, universities, and all our national and international stakeholders, we reach everyone in need within the framework of social responsibility awareness.”
Following the speeches, a protocol titled “Information Technologies Trainings in Libraries” was signed between the Information Technologies and Communication Authority and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.
