Hosted by Marmara Fuarcılık and MOBİSAD, the MOBİSAD-IMEX Fair was held at the İstanbul Exhibition Center. The fair, which brought together sector representatives, addressed innovations and suggestions related to the mobile communication sector.
In the program organized, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, who spoke, emphasized the Ministry's strong steps and role in the field of information and communication technologies in Türkiye. Sayan stated, "We are working with great determination to advance our country's position in global competition during the digital transformation process even further."
Deputy Minister Sayan stated that the development of domestic and national technologies is among the priorities, saying, “Thank God, we have a guide like the National Technology Move that we have built under the leadership of our esteemed President to achieve our goals. The National Technology Move aims to ensure our country's technological independence and to secure a stronger position in global competition. In line with this objective, we are implementing important projects.”
While emphasizing the importance of domestic technologies, Sayan also touched upon the following words: In our pursuit of technological development and innovation, we place knowledge at the forefront and act with this understanding. Our goal of reducing external dependency constantly reminds us more clearly that we need to discover our own potential in technology and knowledge production and progress with our own resources. This is why turning to domestic and national technologies actually allows us to look inward, find the strength and solutions we seek within ourselves.”
Sayan also touched upon breakthroughs in 5G technology. Emphasizing that transitioning to 5G using domestically produced products to the highest possible extent is one of their main goals, Sayan said, “5G technology will be one of the turning points for industry and trade with high-speed internet access, low latency times, and large data transfer capacities. Transitioning to 5G using domestically produced products to the highest possible extent, nationalizing critical components, and establishing our own reliable infrastructure in this direction is our primary goal. As we progress determinedly on this path, we will ensure that our flag waves at the forefront in the world with our projects that increase competition and independence. As we always say, ‘The Turkish Century will be the Century of Technology,’ with these words, he concluded his speech.
President Karagözoğlu: We Aim for a Türkiye that Increases Its Added Value by Relying on Its Own Brainpower
Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), who spoke at the fair, stated that significant changes have occurred both in social life and business life with the widespread adoption and accelerating pace of mobile technologies and smart devices.
Expressing that ensuring the internet infrastructure is secure, fast, and accessible everywhere is one of their priorities, Karagözoğlu said, “The process we started with 3G in 2009 continued with the transition to 4.5G technology in 2016, and our mobile subscriber count exceeded 93 million, reaching a 109% penetration rate. In the same period, our broadband subscriber count reached 93 million, and our fiber infrastructure reached 577 thousand kilometers.”
Stating that as BTK, they are developing various projects in line with the goal of “a Türkiye that excels in science, technology, and innovation, produces, and increases its added value by relying on its own brainpower,” Karagözoğlu announced that they are focusing on the production of 5G and beyond technologies.
Karagözoğlu said, “We have been successfully conducting the 5G Open Test Field, 5G TR Forum, and 5G Valley efforts for years. Within the framework of the goal for our country's transition to 5G with domestic and national network products, the ‘End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project’ is being carried out by our companies that are members of the Communication Technologies Cluster and our three mobile operators. Technology developers can conduct tests at the 5G Valley Open Test Field. Our main goal here is to establish testing, verification, and trial infrastructure for all kinds of R&D and product development activities in the 5G and beyond fields, and to support the delivery of new services we produce with our own resources to our people.”
Emphasizing the importance of the increasing amount of data, Karagözoğlu said, “In the environment of increasing speed and interaction, ensuring data security at the highest level is a must for us. With the development of technology, the amount of data we produce is also increasing. Taking necessary measures both at the individual level and for institutions and systems in ensuring the security of data is of great importance.”
Karagözoğlu concluded his speech with the words, “As BTK, within the scope of the cyber security organization established in 2013, we continue to fulfill our duties related to cyber security at an increasingly accelerating pace and in the best way possible. As a result of these efforts, USOM (National Cyber Incident Response Center) has become a brand and continues to perform important functions for the development of our country's cyber security ecosystem.”
