
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made evaluations regarding the Information Technologies and Communication Authority's "Turkey Electronic Communications Sector 3-Month Market Data Report" for the second quarter of 2023.
Stating that 465 companies authorized by BTK in the second quarter hold 843 authorization documents, Uraloğlu noted that the net sales revenues of TT Mobil, Turkcell, Türk Telekom, and Vodafone amount to approximately 38.2 billion lira, while the total revenues of other operators are 12.1 billion lira.
Referring to the mobile subscriber count of 91.4 million and mobile subscriber penetration rate of 107.1% as of the first half of the year, Uraloğlu said, "It was observed that 84 million of mobile subscribers prefer 4.5G subscription, which started service in 2016, and 4.5G service accounts for 91.8% of total subscribers. The M2M subscriber count reached 8.5 million. As of the first half of 2023, the total number of ported mobile numbers is approximately 172 million. In the second quarter of the year, 2 million 465 thousand 812 number porting transactions were carried out, marking a 9.2% increase compared to the previous three-month period. From September 10, 2009, when number portability was implemented in fixed lines, to June 30, 2023, a total of 2 million 538 thousand 670 number porting transactions were performed."
“536 thousand kilometers of fiber infrastructure achieved”
Emphasizing that the average monthly usage time in mobile networks is 477 minutes and 95 minutes in fixed networks as of the first half of the year, Minister Uraloğlu stated, "When examining the internet subscriber count, the total broadband internet subscriber number reached 93.1 million, with 71.7 million being mobile. In the first half of 2023, fiber infrastructure reached 536 thousand kilometers, a roughly 9.6% increase compared to the previous year, and the fiber internet subscriber count is approximately 6.3 million."
Drawing attention to the increase in usage by broadband internet subscribers, Uraloğlu said, "In the second quarter of 2022, the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 238 gigabytes, rising to 254 gigabytes in the second quarter of 2023, while mobile subscribers' data usage increased from 12.8 gigabytes in the second quarter of 2022 to 16 gigabytes."
Stating that there are 6 authorized electronic certificate service providers in Turkey, Uraloğlu announced, "As of the end of June 2023, a total of 7.8 million electronic certificates were created by these electronic certificate service providers, including 6.9 million electronic signatures and 903 thousand mobile signatures."
