Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that air cargo volume reached 1 million 846 thousand 483 tons in the first 6 months of this year, marking a 1.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Stating that growth in air and cargo transportation has accelerated again following the pandemic process, Uraloğlu said, “Air cargo traffic data for the first 6 months of 2023 showed a total 1.6% increase compared to the same months of the previous year. Significant declines had occurred in air and cargo transportation during the pandemic period that gripped the world. When looking at the data for the first 6 months of 2023, it has shifted to an upward trend. We target a 6% increase in cargo volume by the end of the year.”
Minister Uraloğlu noted that cargo transportation is increasingly preferred today due to the fast and comfortable nature of air transport. Uraloğlu stated, “Cargo transportation from one part of the world to another, regardless of distance, reaches the delivery point in the shortest time via airlines, bringing many advantages for the trade sector. In the first 6 months of 2022, total cargo traffic on domestic and international lines was 1 million 818 thousand 169 tons. By the end of June 2023, it reached a total of 1 million 846 thousand 483 tons on domestic and international lines. Thus, the first 6 months data of 2023 showed a 1.6% increase compared to the same months of the previous year.”
Emphasizing the importance of speed and security in air cargo traffic, Uraloğlu said, “The primary reason for the increase in air transportation traffic is the damage-free carriage of sensitive cargoes and its role as a safe and fast method in international trade. Additionally, faster and easier customs procedures follow. Our airports will continue to make our people's lives even easier.”
