The Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established on October 9, 1874, in Bern, Switzerland, and the founding agreement, named the "Bern Agreement," was signed by Turkey as a founding member along with the other 22 members.
October 9, the date of the UPU's establishment, was designated as "World Post Day" by a decision taken at the UPU congress held in 1969 and is celebrated worldwide.
Our country, a founding member of the UPU and host of the 2016 UPU Congress in Istanbul, continues its claim to be a prominent player in the global postal sector in the future, adapting to the new conditions of the era with its vast experience and expertise in the postal sector.
With the integration of developing technologies, the postal sector has fundamentally transformed, turning the letters people write to each other into nostalgic elements. On the other hand, corporate mailings retain their vitality, and the growth of e-commerce is creating new opportunities and possibilities for the sector.
Our country's postal sector is developing in numerous areas, from e-commerce to financial services, and is enhancing service diversity and quality through global integration.
Service providers operating in the postal sector, regardless of public or private sector distinctions, continue to work toward our country's 2023 targets. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Information Technologies and Communication Authority will continue to support the sector in these efforts.
On this occasion, we sincerely congratulate the World Post Day of the service providers operating in the postal sector and, in particular, the postmen who invest intense effort in delivering mail to our citizens.
