The 10th meeting of the Internet Governance Forum, which has been held annually under the United Nations since 2006, took place in Joao Pessoa, Brazil, from November 10-13, 2015. Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, also attended the meeting in Brazil and conducted important contacts.
BTK President Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan held important bilateral meetings during the IGF 2015 sessions. In his meeting with United Nations Under-Secretary-General Lenni Montiel, Sayan discussed issues such as improving the IGF and strengthening it to produce concrete results, as well as important topics on the agenda. In the Sayan-Montiel meeting, emphasis was placed on the important role played by the United Nations in internet matters, and it was stated that our country contributes to the WSIS processes as a member of the ITU Council, while Turkey's views on the subject were conveyed. Sayan, while explaining that the IMT-Advanced tender had been conducted, emphasized that Turkey's strong approach to 5G is important and that Turkey's contributions to mutual cooperation between countries on 5G would provide significant benefits. UN Under-Secretary-General Montiel invited our country to the United Nations WSIS Review Summit to be held in New York in December, stating that important issues regarding the IGF and the internet ecosystem would be discussed at the summit and that he would be pleased with our country's participation.
