Turkey's First Web3 Summit was held under the auspices of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
The "International Web3 Summit," organized by the Web3 Technologies Association and BTK Academy under the theme of "Technology and Humanity," brought together sector representatives. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, who attended the opening of the program, delivered a speech on the development of technology.
Drawing attention to the increasing influence of technology's power in our lives, Karagözoğlu stated, "With the rapid changes and developments in technology, distances have shortened, and our world has become like a small village. Today, approximately 66% of the world's population uses the internet. Being connected and in communication anytime, anywhere has become one of society's basic needs, like water and electricity."
Highlighting the enormity of the data volume emerging parallel to the dizzying rapid development of technology, President Karagözoğlu said, "With almost everything being connected to the internet, the amount of data produced has reached enormous dimensions. In human history, the production of information has never been as fast as it is today. With the prevalence of broadband internet infrastructure and advancements in data transmission speeds, the volume of data produced has reached 40 Zettabytes in 2020, or in other words, 40 Trillion Gigabytes. In a more striking expression, the amount of data produced in the last 2 years exceeds all the data collected since the beginning of humanity. Influenced by technologies like the Internet of Things, it is estimated that the amount of data produced will reach 175 Zettabytes by 2025."
President Karagözoğlu: Web 3.0 Has the Potential to Reconstruct Many Areas
Touching on the development and potential of the internet since its inception, Karagözoğlu said, "Web 1.0, which entered our lives in 1989 and is called the first version of the internet, only offered a read function. There was no possibility of interaction among users. Then, the Web 2.0 concept entered our lives, and we can say that we transitioned from static websites to dynamic websites. Users began producing content alongside the provided content, and thus the internet started to be defined by interaction among users. With Web 2.0, the write function was added to the internet's read function. Although users produced content in Web 2.0, they did not own it. With Web 3.0, innovations provided by blockchain technology enabled the distribution of ownership to users and producers. The ownership function was added alongside the read and write functions in the internet domain. Without a single central point, which stands as one of the biggest advantages, Web 3.0 is expected to make a significant contribution to the global digital economy by creating new business models and different markets. Web 3.0 has the potential to reconstruct many areas." He used these expressions.
President Karagözoğlu: Our Goal is to Advance Our Country Further in Every Field
Also mentioning the impacts of digital transformation and industrial change on society, Karagözoğlu said, "We are now discussing the changes brought by Society 5.0, a 'super smart society' where the cyber domain and physical domain are highly integrated. In this wonderful event, under the theme of 'technology and humanity,' we will have the opportunity to evaluate how technology is changing and transforming human life. In every effort to facilitate people's lives and contribute to their well-being in the field of information and communication, we are involved every day with even stronger motivation together with all our stakeholders. Our goal is to advance our country further in every field," concluding his speech.
Following the speeches, the program continued with panels on blockchain and Web3.
