The “Data Management and Security Technologies” event organized by BT Haber was hosted by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
In the opening speech of the program where the importance of topics such as data and data security was discussed, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan spoke about the growth of data. Sayan, stating that every breath taken by the world's population exceeding 8 billion is added to the data pile, said, “With smartwatches, it is now possible to calculate the population's sleep dynamics, stress levels, walking habits, and even heart attack risks. It has become easier to detect individuals who eat healthily or have health problems using food order data.”
Sayan, who pointed out that all kinds of actions of individuals are recorded thanks to data, emphasized the importance of data by stating, “Today, thanks to big data, many data points such as the desires of masses, their behaviors, health conditions, spending habits, transportation methods, and more can be analyzed correctly and easily, and even directed. With big data analytics, it is possible to save time and money, and to uncover unknowns that can affect business methods and strategies. Ultimately, an effective and fast decision-making process, advanced market intelligence can be obtained through modeling and predicting future outcomes.”
Chairman Karagözoğlu: Storing Data is as Important as its Increase
Information Technologies and Communication Authority Chairman Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, who participated in the program via video conference, drew attention to how rapidly data multiplies. Touching upon the fact that storing data is as important as its growth, Karagözoğlu said, “Of course, just storing data alone does not hold much meaning. It needs to be classified, processed, and in short, made ready for use. In this regard, we are conducting intensive efforts to make our country an attractive and preferred data center hub by the entire world.”
Underlining the importance of keeping data within national borders, Karagözoğlu conveyed that they have great sensitivity on this matter. Karagözoğlu stated, “Every advantage, incentive, and support we provide regarding data centers will contribute to multinational companies operating in this field investing in our country, while also enabling our country's young and dynamic workforce to be directed toward this sector. At the same time, it will create opportunities for our domestic firms in services and supply related to data centers. As new data centers are established in our country, I believe our country's strong global position will advance even further alongside our qualified workforce.”
Expressing that USOM operates 7/24 to ensure data security, Karagözoğlu emphasized that they use entirely domestic and national software in doing so.
