Information Technologies and Communication Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu attended online the 5th Workshop of the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G (UUYM5G) Communication Network Project, organized under the coordination of HAVELSAN.
In his speech, Karagözoğlu explained that 5G's software-based nature and its central role in many sectors have led to strategic changes in countries' perspectives on communication technologies.
Pointing out that countries are addressing the supply of 5G network equipment from the perspectives of national security and public order, Karagözoğlu stated, "Therefore, we are witnessing the start of technology wars between countries. Considering these developments worldwide, we see how accurate our state's strategy is to transition to 5G technology with domestic and national network products."
Karagözoğlu drew attention to the fact that, within this scope, the aforementioned project—designed by member companies of the Communication Technologies Cluster and supported by TÜBİTAK—is developing the critically important network equipment that Turkey will need for its transition to 5G, and said, "Transitioning to 5G with domestic and national products is critically important in terms of national security, economic development, and mitigating potential adverse developments in the global conjuncture. We are continuing our efforts with this awareness."
Following the speeches, the Domestic and National Radio Link, 5G Core Network, 5G Base Station, and Virtualization Platforms were introduced as part of the project, and the first call was made using the national 5G infrastructure.
