
The General Assembly Meeting of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP) was held in Istanbul.
Hosted by BTK, the event brought together managers and representatives of postal regulatory authorities from European countries, along with numerous sector stakeholders.
Speaking at the meeting, Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), emphasized that the postal sector still maintains its strategic importance as a fundamental public service in an era where digital transformation is accelerating.
Karagözoğlu said, “Today, individuals can access products and services from all over the world with a single click. Behind this convenience, there are postal and delivery networks working with great effort.”
Sharing the developments in Turkey's postal sector in 2024, Karagözoğlu announced that in the sector where 57 authorized postal service providers operate, total net sales revenues nearly doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 126 billion TL.
Stating that approximately 1.7 billion postal items were processed in the same period, Karagözoğlu said, “93% of shipments are delivered within three days. This demonstrates the development in our service quality and logistics infrastructure.”
Expressing that they supported contactless delivery practices, which gained momentum with the pandemic, through legislation, Karagözoğlu said that with the Procedures and Principles Regarding Delivery Services that entered into force in 2023, they responded more effectively to consumer expectations.
President Karagözoğlu: Turkey is Now a Country that Produces Technology
Underlining that sustainability is at the center of BTK's regulatory vision, Karagözoğlu stated that service providers are now required to submit regular reports on carbon emissions, energy efficiency, and waste management. Karagözoğlu also said that social sustainability steps aimed at improving the working conditions of couriers have been implemented.
Drawing attention to the great transformation Turkey has undergone in the last 23 years, Karagözoğlu stated that this success is the result not only of sectoral efforts but also of a development approach centered on domestic and national production.
Karagözoğlu concluded his speech with the words, “Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with the National Technology Move and the Turkey Century vision, we are shaping not only today but also the future. We are now a country that not only consumes but also develops, produces, and exports its own technology.”
