Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan attended the “Workshop on Providing Broadband Internet Services via Low Earth Orbit Satellites” program.
In his opening speech, Sayan, who drew attention to the fact that regulations regarding satellite services are being conducted under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and within the framework of the national technology initiative, stated: “We are shaping it based on the development of our own satellites with domestic and national capabilities, the contribution of foreign-origin companies providing services to our country to investment and employment in our country, and keeping our data within the country.”
Deputy Minister Sayan emphasized the work they have carried out in this field. Reminding that they established the Turkey Satellite Valley as the Ministry and BTK with the aim of “Making Our Country the Center of Satellite Ground Stations,” Sayan also highlighted the legislation and regulations.
Reminding that certain conditions must be considered when providing satellite services, Sayan stated: “Due to the nature of the service provided, their impact on existing networks needs to be well evaluated, as they represent a technological advancement capable of competing with terrestrial networks. It is inevitable that they comply with the political and regulatory requirements of the countries they wish to serve in terms of national security, public order, citizens’ rights, service provision conditions, and similar matters.”
Deputy Minister Sayan also issued a reminder. Noting that some companies are accepting payments for the services they plan to offer, Sayan concluded his speech by saying: “As you know, companies providing services in our country are published on BTK’s official website. We can say that the service can be provided once the companies capable of offering services are announced on our website after the necessary regulations are made by our Information Technologies and Communication Authority. Therefore, it is important for our citizens to approach the matter cautiously to avoid any victimization.”
