
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan attended the Informatics Summit event organized under the theme “Technology Will Save the World.” Sayan made important statements on informatics and technology.
Speaking at the 22nd Informatics Summit this year, which was also attended by prominent figures from the public and private sectors as well as academics, Sayan stated that keeping up with digital developments and integrating technological advancements into business processes is the most important condition for participating in global competition.
Deputy Minister Sayan provided important information about the future transformation of communication with the words: “Today, more than 5 billion people around the world use the internet, and it is estimated that there are more than 13 billion internet-connected devices worldwide. It is estimated that in 2025, there will be more than one hundred billion different communications worldwide, and only 10% of them will be between individuals. In the next 10-15 years, the number of network-connected devices is expected to reach the trillions.”
Stating that the increasing data traffic has made the need for high capacity and speed necessitate new-generation communication networks and fiber infrastructures, Sayan said, “As the Ministry and BTK, together with our stakeholders, we are building, diversifying, and making Turkey's digital highways more capable, and prioritizing investments in new-generation technologies, especially fiber.”
Sayan: We Continue Production Efforts with Domestic and National Resources Without Slowing Down
Sayan, who stated that they are working on 5G and beyond technologies as the Ministry, said, “With the awareness that countries can only strengthen through production and cannot have a say in the world in the long term by using products produced by others, we continue our production efforts with domestic and national resources in our country's high-tech sectors such as communication and defense without slowing down,” emphasizing the importance of localization in production, and announced that the domestic production share in the information technologies sector's service and software sub-sectors has reached 75% in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s domestic and national production targets.
Sayan announced that with BTK Academy established under the Ministry and BTK, they provide free training in informatics to children and youth, and stated that the education portals have more than 1 million registered users in this scope.
Touching upon the fact that cyber security risks have also increased with technological developments, Deputy Minister Sayan said, “Cyber security has become a part of national security and a factor that directly affects the welfare of countries,” pointing out the current importance of cyber security. Speaking about the studies conducted by the Ministry and BTK in this regard, Sayan stated, “With more than 2100 SOME nationwide under the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM), and up to 6500 cyber security experts, we protect our cyber homeland with effective efforts carried out 7/24.”
Also mentioning the importance of sustainability and nature-friendly solutions in technology for the world, Sayan concluded his speech with the words: “While prioritizing the development of nature-friendly solutions for our future generations and the future of our world, we must also benefit from the opportunities offered by technology to protect our world and make it more livable.”
