
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan moderated the AUS Policies session at the SUMMITS 3rd International Intelligent Transportation Summit.
The session, which discussed the importance of policies implemented regarding intelligent transportation, was attended by ERTICO CEO Joost Vantomme, UAB Communication General Manager Gökhan Evren, AUS America President & CEO Laura Chace, Ministry of Industry and Technology Strategic Research and Productivity General Manager Prof. Dr. İlker Murat Ar, and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir.
Speaking about the current state of transportation, Deputy Minister Sayan stated, “Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are at the top of the global transportation agenda. In this context, our Ministry aims to widespread intelligent transportation systems across all our transportation modes in line with developments in information technologies. Additionally, our Ministry continues studies to determine policies, strategies, actions to guide the sector in the ITS field, and the necessary legislation.”
Providing information on studies regarding Intelligent Transportation Systems, Sayan said, “We aim to reduce travel times, increase traffic safety, use existing road capacities more effectively and efficiently, increase mobility, facilitate the lives of pedestrians and especially disadvantaged groups in the transportation field and enable them to travel more safely, contribute to our country's economy by increasing energy efficiency, and reduce environmental damage by placing the environment at the center of all our projects.”
Sayan stated that they aim to offer solutions emerging at the intersection of the transportation sector and information and communication technologies to citizens' service with the opportunities provided by our country's strong informatics and communication infrastructure.
Noting that significant breakthroughs have been made in the information and communication sector, which has been a major factor in the development and widespread adoption of intelligent transportation systems in our country over the last 20 years as in all areas, Sayan shared the information, “With the 4.5G services that started to be used in our country in 2016, we have increased the localization rate, which was at 1% in the first investment period, to 33% as of today. Our goal is to take this rate much further.”
