At the "Youth and Informatics Festival" organized under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with contributions from the Presidency Digital Transformation Office, Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), and the Turkish Informatics Association, Turkey's Digital Transformation was discussed in a panel.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan also met with young people at the event. In his speech, Sayan announced that they are working to achieve the status of a country that not only uses 5G but also develops, produces, and exports it with domestic and national capabilities.
Touching on Turkey's fiber infrastructure, Sayan stated, "We want fiber internet to reach all homes and neighborhoods. Our target by the end of 2023 is to have 100 megabits per second internet in every household. Because technology is constantly evolving and digital transformation is embracing us from all sides."
Deputy Minister Sayan: We Are Working to Reach the Position of a Country Exporting 5G
Explaining that with 5G technology, the world will transition to one where everything is done on mobile platforms, Sayan remarked, "We have increased Turkey's localization and nationalization rate in 4.5G to 30%. Our fiber length is 471 thousand kilometers. The average monthly usage of internet subscribers has reached 204 gigabytes. We are working to achieve the status of a country that not only uses 5G but also designs, develops, produces, and exports technology with domestic and national capabilities. Our geography has also demonstrated to us the criticality of having domestic and national communication infrastructures."
Inviting young people to participate in BTK Academy trainings, Sayan said that by completing these trainings in many areas, particularly cybersecurity, they can collaborate with them on employment opportunities.
Urging the youth to improve their foreign language skills, Sayan advised, "You need to know programming languages well and be social. Instead of focusing solely on education, focus on practice to enhance your knowledge and experience."
