Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan made important statements regarding information technologies at the “Micro Focus Realize Tour” event.
Deputy Minister Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, who participated online in the program organized by Micro Focus, began his speech by talking about data. Pointing out that big data is one of the most popular concepts of recent years, Sayan said, “Is the interest in this topic, which is discussed at almost every conference and written about in articles, only remaining in words? What percentage of the collected data can be used effectively? Or the main question should be ‘How successful are we in using data analytics?’ The important thing is to derive analytical results from big data, transform them into high value-added new products, and provide efficiency and agility in processes. Data is like the ‘fuel’ of today and the future. Since 2017, the world's most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data. We must understand this new order well and produce opportunities for our country's benefit together through collaboration.”
Stating that new technologies have brought new approaches with them, Sayan said, “One of them is 5G and beyond technologies, which is also on our agenda. With the introduction and widespread adoption of these technologies in our country, it will be possible to benefit from the opportunities of digitalization in many areas with higher speed and capacity. In short, in today's world, there is data production in virtually unlimited quantities and extremely large volumes. To analyze, process, and transform this valuable resource's flow into services, there is a need for strong and resilient infrastructure solutions along with correct and robust technologies. In this context, we have established the BTK Data Center, which has the largest data capacity in the public sector, for our country, and we continue our efforts without slowing down with the motto ‘Turkey's data will stay in Turkey.’” He once again emphasized the importance of data.
Reminding that the first national big data application operating at the big data layer was developed under BTK, Sayan said, “As a country, we are quite strong in the software field and the technologies it brings. We need to increase the human resources trained in the software field. I think every effort in this area is very important. As the Ministry, together with BTK, we provide training to young people who want to develop themselves in information and communication technologies and software under the BTK Academy roof with the support of our stakeholders. The trainings received are added to the resumes of our young people and transferred to a database that entrepreneurs seeking qualified human resources can access. In this way, on one hand, our talented young people, who are the key to developing domestic and national products and software, are included in the employment process, rapidly developing our country's potential in this regard; on the other hand, our entrepreneurs seeking dynamic and knowledgeable human resources turn their routes to our internal resources. Hopefully, our country will become even stronger in this field and continue on its way.”
Deputy Minister Sayan: Domestic and National Production is One of Our Most Important Strategic Goals
Pointing out that the increasing amount of data also brings vulnerabilities related to cybersecurity, Sayan said, “We are continuing the efforts to ensure national cybersecurity in our country with increasing momentum every day. While it is controlled by the ‘National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM)’ established under BTK in 2013, the Cyber Incident Response Teams (SOME) established in institutions and organizations, especially in critical infrastructure sectors under USOM coordination, also continue our country's cybersecurity activities on a 7/24 basis.” He shared this information.
Emphasizing that we are among the leading countries in the world in the defense industry with advanced technology products developed with domestic and national capabilities in the last 20 years, Sayan said, “I express our vision of producing domestic and national technology products with our domestic human resources at every event. Because this issue is one of the most important strategic goals for our country in the informatics field. In this scope, I wholeheartedly believe that all our valuable participants here today will make even more efforts in this regard,” and concluded his speech.
