Information Technologies and Communication Authority hosted the 7th Cybersecurity Platform event, organized by the Public Cybersecurity Association under the theme "Security of Mobile Devices."
Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, also attended the program's opening. Highlighting the importance of individual awareness in cybersecurity, Sayan stated that greater caution is needed when using mobile applications.
Sayan said, "In recent times, we have encountered fake applications that resemble official institutions' mobile apps. We need to check whether the applications we install on our mobile devices belong to official institutions. In particular, we should verify which features of our device the applications want to access. We must be cautious about applications that seek access to our device's camera, microphone, or contacts without necessity."
Pointing out that various methods are used to install malware on phones, Sayan noted that tracking programs are also installed on mobile devices through calls from unknown numbers, emphasizing the need for greater caution in this regard.
Referring to Turkey's efforts in training cybersecurity experts, Sayan stated, "In recent days, a decision was made to bring together institutions that are stakeholders in cybersecurity to ensure coordination in closing the expert gap. We will do our part in the best possible way at this point. In the coming period, just as in every field, we will see Turkey among the world's leading countries in information and communication technologies. We will work for a Turkey that designs, develops, produces high-tech products, ensures their security, and markets them worldwide."
President Karagözoğlu: Global Mobile Data Traffic is Increasing
BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu stated that rapid developments in mobile technologies and the accessibility of the internet through these technologies have brought about changes in many areas.
Noting that mobile technologies have significantly reduced dependence on computers, Karagözoğlu said, "Many features of computers have been transferred to mobile smart devices, and mobile phones have even reached capacities to do more. This development has caused global mobile data traffic to multiply every year."
President Karagözoğlu emphasized that data security cannot be overlooked in an era of intensified communication, stating that protecting existing data from attacks requires certain technological and legal measures.
Drawing attention to the various regulations made by the institution regarding personal data security, Karagözoğlu said, "The most important of these efforts was the establishment of the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM) to ensure both the security of our data and our country's cybersecurity."
Karagözoğlu stated that the aim of the work and projects developed under USOM is to detect cyber threats and take measures to prevent them.
