The “Satcom Club Conference,” organized in collaboration with Inmarsat and Türksat, was held under the auspices of BTK.
The event, held at the Central Campus of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, was attended via a video message sent from Istanbul by Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. BTK Vice President Figen Kılıç, TÜRKSAT General Manager Cenk Şen, and Inmarsat executives also participated in the program.
Deputy Minister of UAB Sayan, drawing attention to the fact that Turkey has reached a completely different point with the National Technology Move carried out under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said, “Our country, which is undergoing a great transformation, has begun to take firmer steps with this project. Especially after the treacherous coup attempt on July 15, our country, which has made domestic and national production its motto in every field, has brushed off the dust on it and achieved development in a way that will amaze the world in a short time. Turkey, which has turned the National Technology Move into dozens, even hundreds of success stories in every field from defense industry to telecommunications, from informatics to education, I believe that in the very near future, it will become a country that leads sectors in every field of technology with domestic and national productions.”
Pointing out that developments are taking place very quickly and fundamentally as a feature of the age we live in, Sayan stated, “Undoubtedly, great changes and transformations have occurred in the field of satellite technologies as well. In addition, our Ministry and BTK are providing support for the formation of the Communications Technologies Cluster (HTK) to encourage R&D and domestic production in satellite communication infrastructure and services. Test flight permission was granted for the ASELSAT cube satellite developed by ASELSAN to support the development of Cube Satellite technology in our country.”
Reminding that steps have been taken towards the production in Turkey of products related to broadband internet services provided over TÜRKSAT communication satellites, Sayan concluded his speech by saying, “We are working tirelessly, without knowing fatigue, to give good news to our citizens on this matter as soon as possible. Domestic satellite works with TÜRKSAT 6A communication satellite in the satellite sector are continuing at full speed. We aim to carry out new ground system projects for satellite ground stations with domestic resources. Many studies have been conducted regarding satellite systems. We have made very valuable agreements both with our domestic satellite company TÜRKSAT and with Inmarsat, which contributes to this ecosystem. I would like to thank Inmarsat very much for their contributions.”
BTK Vice President Kılıç: Satellite Technologies Are a Very Effective Field
BTK Vice President Figen Kılıç also made a speech at the program. Emphasizing that rapid developments are taking place in many fields together with communication technologies in the age we live in, Kılıç said, “Satellite technologies are one of these effective fields. We believe that with faster and higher-capacity satellites and developing communication technologies, together with 4G and 5G integration, they will now be much faster, more efficient, and effective,” and added: “As you know, our primary field is to regulate, regulate, and open the way for our operators in the communication and PTT Cargo sector. Satellite technologies are also among our important working areas. Providing satellite operators with the opportunity to work in a fair competition environment and ensuring that subscribers receive services in the most appropriate way are among our duties. We are working in elbow contact with our stakeholders in the sector on what we can do to reduce operators' costs.”
Reminding that there are satellite studies conducted by ASELSAN, İTÜ, and STM, Kılıç stated, “We have given test permissions for these and the works are continuing at full speed. Again, as Turkey, within the scope of the ‘National Technology Move,’ we attach great importance to ground station studies and the production of domestic and national products. We continue to produce good works and projects by making efficient collaborations with companies like Inmarsat. I believe that this collaboration will increase even more with this event and that the works done will continue in the future.”
Following the speeches, the program ended with the presentation of plaques.
