A panel titled "Supporting the National Technological Ecosystem" was held within the scope of the 3rd Mobilefest Communication Technologies Fair and Congress held at the Istanbul Congress Center.
Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority, was a speaker at the panel moderated by Güneri Dürmüş, Business Development Director of TTG International.
In his speech at the panel, Karagözoğlu noted that there are many startups and technology companies in Türkiye that demonstrate significant engineering achievements, continue their work with great motivation and excitement, and are open to new developments, and stated that they trust the dynamism of these firms in bringing 5G and beyond communication technologies to the present day.
Stating that the Ministry of Transport has issued a call for a new support package and that institutions are working on it, Karagözoğlu said, "I would also like to point out that the doors of our state are open to companies that want to produce. As BTK, we facilitate cooperation between our domestic and national producers and the operators who are customers of their products."
Karagözoğlu stated that they encourage, and even mandate, the use of domestic products through regulations and license conditions when necessary for products that have reached a certain maturity, adding, "Domestic production rates, which were not even 1%, have now exceeded 30%. This regulation means directing approximately 1 billion TL of the market, where about 2 billion TL of investment is made every day in mobile software and hardware, to domestic producers. Our domestic producers need to work hard, seeing their potential, and develop high-quality products that can compete. As BTK, we make frequency allocations for our operators to provide certain services."
I believe the White Paper should be updated now
Karagözoğlu reminded that they established the New Generation Mobile Communication Technologies Türkiye program in 2016 to ensure the development of domestic and national products, services, and technologies that will take place in national and international markets.
Noting that the 5GTR Forum Working Groups, coordinated by BTK, aim to determine priorities, strategies, and roadmaps for 5G and beyond, Karagözoğlu stated that demands from the sector and views of operators operating in the communication sector are taken into consideration.
Karagözoğlu expressed his belief that the White Paper should be updated now, adding that he thinks it will contribute both technologically and internationally.
