Türkiye Informatics Association's 8th "Cyber Security Ecosystem Development Summit" this year was held under the auspices of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority. The summit was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, General President of the Türkiye Informatics Association Kenan Nurhan Altınsaat, and leading representatives of the sector.
Speaking at the summit, which was held this year under the theme "The Cyber Ecosystem of the Future: Security, Resilience, and Innovation," Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan emphasized that cyber security has now become a necessity rather than an option.
Sayan stated, "Those who protect their digital fortresses with foreign keys leave their sovereignty at the mercy of others," drawing attention to the importance of domestic and national solutions.
Deputy Minister Sayan: Cyber Security is an Indispensable Element for Public Welfare and Economic Stability
Noting that Türkiye addresses its digital security with a multidimensional approach, Sayan expressed that they have put the 2024-2028 National Cyber Security Strategy into effect. Under the strategy, the Cyber Security Presidency was established, and the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM), operating under the BTK, continues its work on a 7/24 basis. He said, "In just the first quarter of 2025, approximately 37 thousand cyber attacks were detected. USOM blocks an average of 11 million malicious accesses daily."
Emphasizing in his speech that trained human resources are the most critical element in cyber security, Sayan stated that BTK Academy has provided training in cyber security, artificial intelligence, and software to millions of young people to date, and has become an important center not only for Türkiye but also for the region in increasing cyber security competence.
Touching on the importance of stronger cooperation between public institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations, Sayan concluded his speech with the words, “To enable Türkiye to progress strongly in the digital age, we need to build a cyber ecosystem that is based on trust, internalizes resilience, and adopts innovation as its compass.”
President Karagözoğlu: The Importance of Cyber Security is Increasing in an Era Where Technology is Developing Rapidly
Speaking at the summit, BTK President Karagözoğlu emphasized the importance of cyber security. Karagözoğlu said, “Cyber security is perhaps the most sensitive part of the job. Because, as you know, threats no longer recognize borders. They are evolving, diversifying, and becoming more sophisticated.”
Stating that USOM comes into play when it comes to cyber security, Karagözoğlu said, “USOM detects and blocks threats before you even notice them. If we can navigate the digital world peacefully today, it is thanks to a system, a team, and a consciousness working tirelessly in the background day and night. And as BTK, we are constantly strengthening this structure.”
Touching on the fact that the main theme of the summit, “The Cyber Ecosystem of the Future: Security, Resilience, and Innovation,” reflects the spirit of the age, Karagözoğlu concluded his speech with the words, “Our national cyber security strategy at the national scale rests on three main axes: Security, Resilience, and Innovation. We see these three fundamental pillars as indispensable for a secure and prosperous digital future. But the most important thing we must not forget is this; at the center of all these concepts is the human being. Therefore, with a human-centered approach, we adopt the ‘Human-Centered Cyber Security’ perspective.”
