Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences organized the "6G Conference" as part of its studies on 6th generation wireless communication technology. Speaking at the opening of the conference, which will last 2 days, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said, “In 6G technologies, cyber security is our most important priority along with the digital leap."
Expressing that the production, sharing, and access to information have reached dizzying speeds, and that the rules of the game have also changed, Karaismailoğlu stated that development and growth can be achieved by producing information, converting the produced information into a product, and introducing this product to the world.
Emphasizing the importance of domestic production, high technology, and global brand concepts, Karaismailoğlu said, "If we can bring the information sector to success in these three phases, Turkey will make significant progress both in closing its current account deficit and in exports. For this reason, it is extremely important for young people like you to grow up and have a say in Turkey's future. The dizzying speed of information and communication technologies has multiplied with the new business models that emerged during the pandemic. The dizzying rise in flexible and remote work, e-education, e-commerce, and even e-entertainment models has necessitated increases in internet access speeds and capacities. The rises in usage numbers and durations have also made significant contributions to the sector's growth. In 2021, our country's information sector grew by nearly 20% compared to the previous year. We increased our fiber line length, which was 88 thousand kilometers in 2003, 5.5 times to 488 thousand kilometers. Of course, it's not enough; we will increase it much more.”
Deputy Minister Sayan: The Communication Sector is Experiencing Very Rapid Change
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan also spoke at the program. Stating that the communication sector is undergoing very rapid change, Sayan said that they prioritize domestic and national production in the communication ecosystem.
Conveying that in 6G, apart from physical products, the greatest capital lies in the patents owned related to standards, Sayan gave signals of their upcoming work with the words, "With this vision, we will continue to work as a group ready to produce 6G patents in our domestic, national, and R&D efforts right now."
