BTK President Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan made evaluations regarding the 3rd Quarter Market Data Report covering July, August, and September months of 2016.
Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) President Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan stated that the total net sales revenues of 615 operators in the sector during July, August, and September of the third quarter of 2016 reached 11.6 billion TL, marking an increase of 1.25 billion TL compared to the same period of the previous year.
BTK President Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan recalled that the third quarter of 2016 was a period in which all institutions of our country and the private sector were restructured following the treacherous attack on July 15, and necessary measures were taken to prevent such an incident from recurring, stating, “Our electronic communications sector also continued its growth and development during this period.”
MOBILE SUBSCRIBER NUMBER EXCEEDED 74 MILLION
Stating that 4.5G services, which began on April 1, 2016, have now become an ordinary part of our lives and that 46 million citizens have switched to 4.5G subscriptions, Sayan said: “The number of subscribers actively using 4.5G service increased by 3.1 million compared to the previous period, reaching 16.4 million as of September 2016. The total mobile subscriber number became 74.46 million. Thus, mobile penetration approached 95%. The machine-to-machine (M2M) subscriber number also reached 3.8 million. Mobile number portability continues to maintain its popularity. With 2.34 million numbers ported in this period, the total number of mobile numbers ported since the launch of the application reached 98.44 million. The postpaid mobile subscriber ratio, which was 47% in the same period of the previous year, rose to 50.8% in this period.”
MOBILE BROADBAND SUBSCRIBER NUMBER REACHED 49 MILLION
Noting that demand for broadband internet services in our country is increasing every day, Sayan continued: “Broadband subscriber number increased by 3.8 million compared to the previous period, reaching 59.1 million. Of these subscribers, 10.1 million are fixed subscribers, while mobile broadband subscriber number reached 49 million. It is evident that the impact of mobile broadband is greater in the increase in broadband subscriber numbers. While internet subscriber number increased by 26.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, the highest increase was in mobile internet at 32.9%, followed by Fiber to the Home (FTTH) at approximately 18.6%. In the third quarter of 2016, the monthly average usage of fixed broadband internet subscribers was 67.8 GB, while that of mobile broadband internet subscribers was 2.2 GB.”
Sayan also announced that fiber infrastructure investments increased the fiber length from 261,337 km in the same period of the previous year to 284,044 km in the third quarter of 2016, achieving nearly 9% growth.
112 WAS CALLED THE MOST, 182 HAD THE LONGEST CALLS
According to the published report, Sayan stated that citizens called 112 Emergency Health Services the most from Turk Telekom lines during July, August, and September, with an average call duration of 26 seconds on this line. In the same period, 182 Hospital Appointment, 186 Electricity Fault, 155 Police Emergency, and 153 Alo Police were among the most frequently called numbers. 182 Hospital Appointment was recorded as the line with the longest call duration, with an average call time of 162.3 seconds.
