
The 14th International Electronic Communications Regulators Conference was held in Ankara, hosted by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, under the theme “Next-Generation Regulatory Approaches”. The conference was attended by numerous representatives from various countries, international organizations, operators, academia, and other sector stakeholders.
During the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Information Technologies and Communication Authority and Portugal's National Communications Authority ANACOM.
The conference, which featured 6 separate sessions, included expert speakers who shared their knowledge, expertise, and experiences with the participants.
On the first day of the conference, the session “Next-Generation Regulatory Approaches: The Turkish Perspective” was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The session addressed how the communications sector, which provides efficiency and effectiveness opportunities to all sectors, is impacted by next-generation technologies and future expectations.
The conference's second session, titled "Regulators Session: Next-Generation Approaches and Tools in Regulation", discussed the impact of the rapid changes in the sector on regulations.
In the special session themed “New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence”, the role of artificial intelligence applications in next-generation technologies, along with the importance of security and ethical issues, was addressed.
The first day of the conference concluded with the “Information Session and Field Visit” where BTK shared its work in the field of information and communication technologies.
The first session of the conference's second day, themed “The Future of Telecom Operators”, focused on operators' changing structures and business models due to next-generation technologies.
Finally, in the special session on “Emergency Communications”, experiences in the communications field during disasters and emergencies, as well as measures to ensure uninterrupted and secure communications, were evaluated.
In the conference's closing speech, Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, thanked the session chairs and participants for their contributions to the sessions held over the two days, stating, “Due to the rapidly changing dynamics of the information and communication technologies sector, I believe all actors in the sector must collaborate to track current developments and develop next-generation regulatory approaches related to next-generation technologies. In this regard, with the aim of establishing this collaboration, bringing all stakeholders together to produce common solutions to common problems, I hope that this year’s 14th International Electronic Communications Regulators Conference has been beneficial for all participants.” He concluded his speech with these words.
