2017 1st QUARTER MARKET DATA REPORT PUBLISHED

Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan evaluated the "Turkey Electronic Communication Sector
3-Month Market Data Report" on the first quarter of 2017 prepared by ICTA.
Indicating increase of the number of subscribers and usage in mobile
broadband services in our country continued in the first year of 4.5G
service, which started last year on 1 April, Sayan said “Growth and
development are also recorded in other areas of the sector. In the
‘Quarterly Market Data Report’ published by our Authority regarding the
first quarter of 2017, the data related to the sector are detailed.”
Sayan has the following evaluations given in the Quarterly Market Data
4.5G DIFFERENCE: ALL STATISTICS ARE ON THE TOP
4.5G services, which began on April 1 2016, received a great deal of
attention from our citizens as they completed their first year of service.
As of April 1, 2017, 56.4 million citizens switched to 4.5G subscriptions.
The number of devices and SIM cards compatible with 4.5G, which can
actively use 4.5G, increased by 2.8 million to 22 million when compared
with the end of 2016. Monthly average mobile data usage of 1.6 GB before
the start of the 4.5G service increased to 2.5 GB per month for all mobile
subscribers at the end of the first year and it is 5.5 GB for the those
subscribers whose device and SIM card are compatible with 4.5G
BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIPTION AND USAGE INCREASED
The number of broadband Internet subscribers increased by 2.1 million to
64.3 million, mainly due to the spread of 4.5G and the increase in
subscribers. Of this number, 10.8 million are fixed subscribers and 53.5
million are mobile subscribers. In this period, the number of fiber
subscribers exceeded 2 million for the first time. Looking at the total
number of Internet subscribers, it increased by 24.3% compared to the same
period of the previous year. The highest increase was in the Mobile

In the first quarter of 2017, monthly average usage of fixed broadband
internet subscribers increased by 11% to 72,9 Gbytes compared to the same
period of previous year. Monthly average usage of mobile broadband internet
subscribers was 2.5 GB. Compared to the previous quarter, the average usage
of fixed broadband internet subscribers increased by 7.2% and the average
usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers increased by 10.3%.
THE FASTEST FIRST THREE CITIES ARE: BURSA, SAMSUN, ERZURUM
In the first quarter of 2017, mobile internet access speeds were measured
in 5 cities within the scope of service quality notifications. As a result
of these five measurements, mobile data download speeds in Bursa, Samsun
and Erzurum, which are the first three cities in mobile data download
speed, are respectively 7.4 Mbps, 7.4 Mbps and 7.1 Mbps; mobile data
transmission speed is measured as 1.8 Mbps, 1.5 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps. In the
other measurements, mobile data downloading speed was measured as 5.7 Mbps
and mobile data transmission speed was measured as 1.5 Mbps to 1.6 Mbps.
MOBILE TRAFFIC EXCEEDED 59 BILLION
In the first quarter of 2017, the total amount of mobile traffic was 59.92
billion minutes. For fixed traffic, this figure was around 2.1 billion
minutes. The amount of mobile traffic increased by 5.6% when compared with
the same period of last year. Much of the traffic is generated by mobile to
mobile traffic by 92.5%.
While the share of fixed service operators in urban traffic is 15.2%, the
share of Türk Telekom is 84.8%. Türk Telekom's share in the call to abroad
traffic is 47.2% and the share of the fixed service operators is 52.8%.
In this traffic, the highest number of traffic from fixed and mobile lines
was Germany, while the first three short numbers were 182 (Hospital
Appointment), 112 (Sanitary Emergency), 186 (Electrical Failure).
NUMBER PORTING INCREASED
In the mobile number portability practice in our country, which started in
2008 and is among the most successful in the world, the number of mobile
numbers exceeding 100 million in the past has continued to increase and
reached 104 million.
The number porting in the first quarter was 2.7 million. Mobile number
porting increased by 18.72% compared with the previous quarter and 2.78
million subscribers moved to another operator. A total of 1.334.500 number
porting was carried out between September 10, 2009, when fixed-line number
portability began, until March 31, 2017. In the first quarter of 2017, Türk
Telekom lost 75,042 subscribers; Superonline has won 30.257 subscribers.
TURKCELL IS AT THE TOP IN SUBSCRIBER PER MONTHLY INCOME
Monthly Revenue per Subscriber figures showing how much an operator earns
on average per month from a subscriber are as follows: Türk Telekom 24.49
TL, Turkcell 28.1 TL, Vodafone 27.1 TL, Avea 26.5 TL.
THE NUMBER OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS ARE 75 MILLION
The increase in the number of mobile subscribers continued in this quarter
to reach 75.7 billion. The number of M2M subscribers is 4.1 million. So
mobile penetration is approaching 95%.
“.Com.Tr” IS AT THE TOP AMONG “.Tr” EXTENSION DOMAIN NAMES
As of this period, there are 386.254 ".tr" domain names in the "Nic.tr"
registry. 79.9% of these domain names is "com.tr", 5.3% is "gen.tr", 3.5%
is "gov.tr" and 2.6% is "web.tr" extension. 80.4% of the internet sites
that use these domain names are in Turkey, 8.9% is in the US, 4.5% is in
Germany, 2% is in France, 1.5% is in the Netherlands, 1.1% is in the UK and
1.7% is in other countries.
FIBER INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS INCREASED
In the first quarter of 2017, progress in fiber infrastructure investments
continued. The fiber length of 272.550 km in the same period of the
previous year reached 297,620 km in the first quarter of 2017 and an
increase of 9.2% was realized.
