THE TURKISH-JAPANESE JOINT 5G WORKSHOP WAS HELD IN ANKARA
The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) hosted the Workshop on Next Generation Communications System “5G” organized jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan (MIC) in Ankara on 10 January 2017.
Besides high-level management and experts from ICTA, a Japanese delegation composed of representatives of MIC, 5GMF, NTT DOCOMO and Japanese Embassy in Ankara, members of 5GTR Forum as well as representatives of Turkish ICT sector and academia participated in the workshop. Opening speeches were delivered by Dr. Ömer Fatih SAYAN,Chairman of the Board & President of ICTA, Prof. Dr. Davut KAVRANOĞLU, Chief Adviser to the President of Turkey and Mr. Masahiko TOMINAGA, Director General of Telecommunications Bureau of MIC.
There were three sessions in the workhop. In the first session on public sector presentations, Mr. Ramazan YILMAZ, Head of Technical Regulations Department of ICTA made a presentation on Turkish ICT Policy focus on 5G and Mr. Fumitake TAKAHASHI, Deputy Director of Land Mobile Communications Division from MIC made a presentation on Japanese ICT Policy focus on 5G, respectively.
Private sector presentations were taken place in the second session. The first presentation was made by Mr. Serdar BAYAR, Technology Transfer Manager from Technology and Strategy Management of ASELSAN on the recent developments on 5G in Turkey. Mr. Kohei SATO, Secretary General of 5GMF made a presentation including recent developments on 5G in Japan.
A special session was dedicated on R&D issues. Assistant Prof. Ali GÖRÇİN, Vice President of TÜBİTAK-BİLGEM and Mr. Takehiro NAKAMURA, VP and General Director of 5G Laboratory of NTT DOCOMO made presentations on R&D in Turkey and Japan, respectively.
The workshop is the first step of the implementation of Joint Statement signed between MIC and ICTA. Possible areas of cooperation between Japanese and Turkish sides were also discussed in a bilateral meeting between two sides after the workshop.
